if you could build it......
I thought this would be the most appropriate section........
If you could build the nasties, quickest, street driven n/a LS motor....what would it be ?? And you can't say Robz's 388"...LOL.
Cube ?
Manifold ?
Cam spec ?
Rod ratio ?
Port design ?
Etc...etc..
Give as many details as you are capable of......I feel this to be the real test of an engine and builder, can't turn the boost up to save your azz for a sh*tty combo.
It should be interesting to hear the different theories behind the choices.
Thanks......

Ummmm.....yeah, street driven......that means driven to work a few days a month or on a weekend cruise with your buddies/club. Just generally enjoying the car outside of a competitive environment.
And the most important things for me is driving it or racing in a street style class. Or more impressive would be drag week or something along those lines. FAWK TRAILER QUEENS.....LOL. (no offense to trailer queens, its just not for me. I enjoy being in the car more than a couple rounds every month).
For me the hard part is designing/building an engine to meet the power level without making it to exotic to drive (aka; break a part and haveing to wait weeks for your custom flux's capacitor, is not my idea of a street car). IMO, the big turning point is when the hydro roller won't cut the mustard any more.
Thanks...........

really, if I wanted a (limited) street drivable combo,
13/1 CR
E-85
solid roller
Big *** heads/light valvetrain
something under square (like the 388)
5000 converter (maybe higher???)
3.73 rear
Holley tunnel ram - EFI
I would want to spin it to 8000

We do not have E-85 at enough stations to build a street car around it....but I sure wish we did (metro area of 650,000 people and three E-85 pumps).
I was thinking something along these lines........
ERL SD 1....4.165" x 4.0" (under square)
Jesel .937" keyway lifters with .850 wheel
12:1
LS7 head (Darin Morgan) w/Del West & PSI w/750-ish over the nose
solid roller 270-ish/280-ish 430-ish/420-ish @ 116-ish
Jesel 1.7 Sportsman
93 oct
ported coated Diamonds (Swaintech or Calico) w/Trend pins & Oliver 4340's
Mast cast/cnc 4500
8500 elec-accufab
F/P manual
4.10
T/C box
ACE triple
Etc....etc...
Thanks.........

I sort of knew you had something in mind Holic......
The Holley manifold would not mate with the C5 well, and since this is a C5 site......
Personally, I'd go big.
LSX454
Stay with a hydro roller, build for 6500 peak.
Heads around 350-360 cfm but with smallish runners.
10.5 : 1 so you could tolerate bad gas.
Not so sure on the intake, FAST 102 minimum, maybe modified inside?
Then let BES engines build it semi EMC style. 750 hp possible.
I'd drive it every day.

I would like a solid motor for street driving with lots of torque and estimated 700 rwhp. Gas mileage is not important. Need a low 9 sec NA street bruiser. I may retire my 416 next year...

Great thread....looking for some advice...I have 12-15 to spend and want the most NA streetaable power that I can get on the 91 octane gas here in Socal that is a good dailey driver and will pass the sniffer part of a smog test...(not worried about the visual inspection ;-)
was leaning toward a forged LS3 417 stroker with ported LS7 heads etc...I think I can get to the upper 500's HP without going with a cam that hurts daily drivability too much....
I'm open to all NA options that fit within my budget, and that is still a "reasonably" civilized daily driver.

Former Vendor
rhs 11.5 tall deck bored to 4.125 and a 6.125 rod with a nice amount of stroke comes to 615 cid , deff ls3 ported heads by Reher Morrison Racing engines, fast 102 intake setup 15:1 comp cam would be wicked 256/275 .700/.700 on a 109 lsa , 95 lb injectors. but hey its all money and dreams right
