Default 1/4 mile time trial before a few mod change need advice

Time Slip from my a4 99 coupe today.. I am looking to change a few parts soon see below..

Parts of My current setup is:
- katech ls6 cnc head
- vrx5 cam from vengeance racing
- 78mm fast intake ( I have a 92mm waiting on the bench)
- Ported ls1 tb. (I have a tpis 90mm waiting on the bench)
- Unscreened maf (i have a 90 mm on the bench)
- 1 3/4 long tube headers xs power
- electric cutout exhaust and titanium z06 muffler
- slp underdrive pully 25%
- c5r timing chain
- comp, trunion upgrade, forged pushrods, double valve spring.
- Vararam air intake
Transmission
- 3:15 gears ( thinking of 3.73 or 3:90)
- yank 4000 ss stall

I think the car is running pretty good for the mods... but my goal is high 10 sec.

I beleive the setup I have now could get me in the low 11.2xx in colder temp.

I don't know if fast intake , maf , throttle, gear and a new tune can get me there..

What do you guys think?...

Put in that gear...it will work real good with that 4000 stall

373's would be great!
A set of tires would help too. Looks like a nice build.

Hey thanks i like that setup.but i want that street car in the 10. ..

I am running mt drag radial ET street ss..275/40/17
They hook up really well..had 22psi that pass . Not spinning them at all . Leaving the line at 2800-3000 rpm

I am thinking of getting the 3.73 also.. Dont know if 3:90 would be to much for street use?? but might need those 3:90 to get to my goal

Have you tried launching at 1200-1500 to flash the converter? What DA?

Some 3.42s or 3.73s will probably net you a tenth, but not likely worth the $$

I'd defintiely slap the bigger FAST intake/TB on it. 11.3 is a pretty good ET for 118 mph... Just needs a little better 60' and a little more power to go 10s.

Damn good running car as it is though.

Thanks,
Seem to work better at high rpm launch .. Tried at 1500 rpm but was slower... I would like more trap speed but still getting pretty good et for that trap speed... I could daily drive it if I wanted too..its a fun car..

I did install the92 mm fast intake, 90 mm tb and 90 mm mass few weeks back but tuner could not tune it..he says my intake is bad ..i don't think so...when he tuned it. Car was running fine when cold but hot rpm would be way high. And car wasn't making any power..

Installed back old setup for now car work fine..the first tuner that did the car is 8hrs away...i will try to bring it back to him

My car a few weeks ago ran 11.20's but at 122-123 mph. Dead hooked every pass. Same tires.
Yank ss3600. 3.42 gears
Ive never hit your 60ft. Clearly that ss4000 converter is superior.
i should work on my tune more.

FWIW, I tune my own car.

went 10.99 a couple of years ago under ideal conditions

3.73 gear will be really nice on the street and great at the track.

Have fun with your project.

Don't be afraid of the 3.90 gear. We run them with a Yank SS4000 and 28" drag radials and have gone 1.50 60' in bolt-on trim and way less HP. Driving on the street is not an issue at all. In fact, if I had to do it again, I would have put 4.10s in.

nice.. if i could only see that 10.99 !!!
thought i would see 121-122 trap speed with my current setup!!! i found the trap speed is on the low side for my et..

its a big debate for me now.. 3.73 or 3.90.. i was running 28'' tire last summer and dropped to 26'' because i was 117-118 mph trap.. thought the 28'' were to big rubbing some mph... but i've gainned little with the 26''... i saw 119.xx mph .. once this summer..

right now with the 3.15 i am not near close to the red line in 3rd when i cross the line... were you shifting in 4th with the 3.90??

I don't think so but I'd have to pull a log to double check. We haven't raced since the early spring as I had the car torn down all summer putting a new cam, springs and stand alone in. We'll get back out this fall. I don't think we get out of 3rd.

I would run the 3.73, and a Hoosier 275/40/17 drag radial. The tire hooks and is very light.

I don't think the gear will gain you much mph (if any) but should help you 60' better.

If you ever plan on spraying it, stick with 3.42s...

Ideally, you'd like it to trap close to your peak power rpm..(or even slightly passed it). All depends on your power band/engine combo. You definitely do not want it to shift to 4th gear....(you never want to let it go to 4th gear at wot anyway, that's what kills 4l60s).

Ron, good to see your car is still making good jam! 123 mph with head/cam/intake is damn good.

RMVette,

Redline in third at the stripe?
I guess first question is what do you consider redline?

I set mine to shift at 6700, and I cross the line at a whimpy 5800.

Perhaps the SS4000 is very inefficient, or your trans slips in third. With 3.15 gears, I'd expect less rpm than me.

Hey Alan. Thanks man. She still runs well. Horrible piston slap and all!

Hey Ron, Well I should have said that I want to get to a higher rpm in third but I don't want to shift in 4th .
I pretty sure mine shift around 6500 from 2nd to 3rd.. I am a little over 5k when I cross the line..i will check my go pro video as I haven't data logged a run yet..

My trans is rebuilt with a stage 2 shift kit in it.. I think I am not just having enough hp. To get more mph... I will switch the mass air flow , tb and intake to 92mm from 78mm. And get a new tune ..

Still waiting on a price for a 3.73 diff from my tuner

Ah. Understood.
I had the 3.15 in mine too. I simply found a complete 3 rib 3.42 diff. Added the hardened shafts and C6 posi clutches.
3.73 would be nice. But I met my goal with the 3.42. Not sure if anyone around here can do gear setup in these diffs.

Well first step is done swapped the 78mm intake for the 92..and installed a new ls2 tb now I need a tune..car work good surprisingly..idle is fine..i think I will go for a 100 shot nitrous instead of the gear To finish this season...i'll change the gear this winter..and with the 100shot after a pass I will know which diff to get.

Last points meet at the track is October 1st and 2nd...i will see if there is any improvement with the swap...
