Default WalMart Introduces Lifelong Learning Program

Lifelong Learning Program

At Walmart, we know that talent and hard work will take you a long way. We also know that education is the single biggest competitive advantage we can give our people in the 21st century.

Walmart’s Lifelong Learning Program will make it more convenient and more affordable for our associates to attend college while also working at the company.

Through a partnership with American Public University (APU), associates will be eligible for college credit for their formal training and job experience at Walmart. The partnership will put associates on a faster track to earning a college degree, reduce their length of time in school and make the overall cost more affordable.

Highlights of the program include:
•Associates could receive up to 45 percent of the credit required for an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree at APU based on what they have learned in their career at Walmart.
•Every Walmart and Sam’s Club associate who enrolls in this program will receive a grant from American Public University equal to a 15 percent tuition reduction.
•To further support this program, Walmart will invest $50 million over the next three years to provide tuition assistance and other tools to help associates prepare for college-level work and complete their degrees.
•The degrees and certificates our associates earn through this program are portable and will follow associates whether they stay at Walmart or wherever they choose to go next in life.

For more information on the program and American Public University please see the “Related Information” section on this page or visit http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm.

OK, I think it is great when any company encourages & subsidizes their employees seeking to further their education. However, 45% of a degree is equivalent to time served at a Walmart.

Hence, the "Lifelong Learning Program" name. Until you figure out the other 55% via other means, of course.

...and when they get a better education, they can leave Wal Mart for a company that pays better, with better benefits.

I just don't know.

Wally-World employees don't need college hours, they need a couple of bucks more an hour.

My wife works for Wal-Mart; I'm not talking out of my ***. She doesn't need a college education, she needs another dollar or two.

Like it or not Walmart is an AMERICAN INSTITUTION. Wish I still had not sold my Walmart stock so my EX could blow it in the Y2K Tech Bubble.

Sure .... or move on to management positions in WalMart.

Thanks for posting that - it sounds like a wonderful benefit for WalMart employees.
