Default Welfare Recipients per capita by State

I didn't want to hijack the "most taxed states" thread.

But someone brought up a good point (sorry, forgot who but you were from Missouri): comparing "taxes" you have to account for ALL. Because, in the end, the states need the money ... and they get it.

Whether it be income, sales, real estate, etc ... a state with no income tax has higher real estate. And so on.

So ... in trying to figure out which state really is the healthiest ... I figured simply look at who has the most freeloaders.

http://www.statemaster.com/graph/eco...nts-per-capita

I'm too lazy to reformat from cut-n-paste. But it makes sense. And there's a few on the list that are not states ... lol ....

And I don't know all the blue versus red states by heart .... but it appears ... well ... guess for yourself.

I read somewhere that 40% of the population of Los Angeles Country was on some form of public assistance. The article in this post lists 3.005 people per 1000 as being on welfare in California. There's a big divide here in these two statistics. I'd pick the 40% and not the 0.3% figure.

3.005 per 100 not 1,000.

It's still a big stretch from 3% to 40%

I'm surprised Texas ranked so much higher than Maryland on this list.

Good stuff VV

You didn't notice any difference in the borders vis-a-vis Texas and Maryland?

Interesting site. I noticed my home state of TN is #4. I'd bet a months pay that if you were to take Memphis out of the state we would plummet. Same could be said for Georgia if you remove Atlanta. I could go on but that is the immediate flaw I see.

We're #10. And with the state economy down and our budget deficit looking like a smaller version of the US budget mess, there will still be many welfare recipients sucking at the public teat.

WA is only one of two states that allow illegals to get a state driver;s license and that means that they have a good chance of getting food stamps, free medical, and/or cash welfare. All of this thanks to the Dims and liberals that keep voting for welfare programs and a governess that can't say no to giving away the state's money.

I was surprised VA was so low on the list ... but then again - more than half the state is on the "acceptable" government subsistance program.

I was also surprised Guam beat out Puerto Rico ... but if they calculated the native PR in NY and MA it probably would.

I am kind of shocked it was actually so low. By the way the right talks about it, you'd figure 50%.

Of course that means they aren't counting right.

Bull crap - every state has it's hole in the wall. Where do you think Florida would be without Miami? You hillbillies need to get a job!
