Default The Congressman from Duck Dynasty

Quote:
A stunning election result tonight in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional district. Political newcomer Vance McAllister beat the snot out of State Sen. Neil Riser in the runoff. Both men are Republicans, and both quite conservative. Riser was understood as having the support of the state GOP establishment, including Gov. Bobby Jindal. Riser was also backed by the state Tea Party. After the primary election, McAllister began to sound more conciliatory, saying that he would work with Democrats. Riser jumped on that, trying to paint him as a squish.

McAllister’s secret weapon: the Robertson family. Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson cut a last-minute ad for McAllister. That has got to have had a huge effect. It was a total McAllister blowout tonight. The Tea Party is nothing compared to the Duck Commander dudes.

UPDATE: It’s hard to know at this point to what extent the Duck Commander family’s support helped McAllister, but it was surely significant, given their popularity here. It’s true that of the two candidates — both very conservative Republicans — McAllister was the one moderates were likely to vote for. Why? Riser doubled down on repealing Obamacare, even after the shutdown failure, but McAllister, who initially wanted to repeal Obamacare, said post-shutdown that it was politically impossible to do it with the Dems controlling the US Senate, so he would focus on repealing it. He also campaigned on being more civil towards political opponents. That surely helped him with more moderate voters.

Tonight’s result was probably also the result of people being pissed off at Gov. Bobby Jindal and the state Republican Party, who were widely perceived as putting their thumbs on the scale to help Riser, a state senator. During the campaign, I heard some conservative voters saying they were voting McAllister as a way to thumb their nose at the establishment.

For all that, I’d still guess that the Duck Commander folks won this thing for McAllister. I could be wrong.

The GOP will have trouble winning another election without conservatives approval.

Sounds like the people sent a message to the GOP old timers - but doubt they will listen.

McAllister spent $800k of his own money. Outside of the Duck Dynasty he "owes" no one. That said, he did draw the Democrat vote and had Democrat support from the candidates that lost in the primary, including the Black vote from the inner cities within the district.

This was a bizarre election. The Congressman that retired, Rodney Alexander, was a "fixture" in the 5th. District. Governor Jindal, Alexander and the State Republican Party blessed and anointed Riser before Alexander even retired. It smacked of telling the voters who to "install".

What I resent, and probably a lot of other voters as well, is that the Tea Party backed Riser before the potential candidate field was even set. Is McAllister a closet RINO??? Only time will tell.

I hate the GOP more than the democrats. Heck at least the dems actually believe in something and have a objective! To bad it's socialism but at least they aren't flapping in the wind like the GOP

Time is short for the Republican Party to transform or it's days are numbered

Jindal has garnered a lot of resentment by slashing the budget of higher education and elimination of charity hospitals. Don't get me wrong, it needed to be done and he had the guts to do it. But even though this is a red state, Huey and Earl's shadow remain "Long".

Duck Dynasty just made ratings history: Wednesday night’s fourth season premiere was the most-watched non-fiction series telecast in cable TV history.

The A&E docu-style sitcom delivered 11.8 million viewers at 10 p.m.

“Thanks to its authentic and engaging characters Duck Dynasty has become more than just a reality show, it is a cultural phenomenon,” said David McKillop, General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E. “We would like to thank the Robertsons for their incredible partnership. We are all Happy, Happy, Happy.”

You have to look beyond the hair to the inner workings .
Values and they practice what they preach .
Fame can be fleeting but not their belief in the Lord , said Jase.

I attended a sermon by Jase last Sunday . 35 minutes of him and his wife Missy and ten year old Daughter Mia sang for us for the rest of the hour .

He told one story I hadn't heard before I'll pass along .
It was he and Willies first trip to N Y and he was headed to N J to talk Duck Calls and Willie had meetings about Duck Hunting Documentary or maybe it was about making the show , can't remember .

Anyway they were outside the Hotel both with a cup of coffee and a guy walks by takes a look at them and drops some coins in Willies cup .
Right then Jase said he knew he was better looking than Willie .

They have a large outreach and visit Churches in a hundred countries .
I went to school with Missy's mother and that whole family could sing .
Missy sings like an Angel .

They are on a Mission so I wouldn't dismiss them as just Hairy Religious Zealots . They are Much more than that .

The Church the Gym and all the outbuildings with big closed circuit T V's were packed and you had to have a ticket even though they were free . 5,000 souls attended , every seat filled .
My daughter took me , hadn't been in a church in 5 or 6 years and that was a wedding . It was an experience .

You know why DD is such a hit? Because deep down inside Americans want to show their religion and work ethic but in today's liberal/commie/socialist PC world they can't. This show touches their inner American that has been repressed by the liberal/commie/socialist.

In this day and age if you do show your inner American you are labeled a racist, religious zealot or right wing wacko or some other type of extremist.
This is the state of our country these days and it's very very sad indeed.
