Is Torch Red returning for 2010 model year?

I heard a rumor (on another section of this site) that they are bringing back Torch red for 2010. I waited a few days to see if something was posted in this section but still haven't seen anything yet (which leads me to believe it's not true, since this section always has the latest scoop first)

So can anyone confirm or deny if this rumor is true?

crawfish333 02-01-2009 08:39 AM

I have not heard that rumor, but I would welcome it if it were true. Torch red was a beautiful color for C5s.

fyreline 02-01-2009 09:06 AM

What we're hearing is Torch Red for sure, plus one other new color. I'm pulling for green. Guess we'll see in April.

Modshack 02-01-2009 09:07 AM

You should probably ask if the Corvette is coming back for 2010...:(

Have not heard a thing but Torch Red would be a good choice.

Vette_DD 02-01-2009 10:08 AM

I've seen pics of the only Torch Red C6 and I don't think you'd like it. Hope it's only a rumor.

NevadaVette 02-01-2009 10:17 AM

Bringing back TR would be a good omen that GM might actually be turning around, because they never seem to address their mistakes. How they got involved in paying people to figure out why to drop a popular color in favor of a red that was so unpopular that they dropped it immediately and then switched to a red that they use on trucks never made much sense.

If GM does bring back TR, it will be interesting to see what they do with the existing red interior, the shade of which would really clash with TR. They have never thought that far ahead in the past.

I've been wishing for green to return for a very long time now, I hope it happens soon!

Red vs Red

Not to get too far off topic, does anybody have a pic of Torch Red next to Victory Red?

CACTI 1 02-01-2009 01:45 PM

Yeah, . . .

Yeah, . . . I wish that "green" would
come back. It has been too long.

I liked that "Bowling Green" color.
A dark green with cashmere interior. Nice.

Chevrolet would paint the corvette
3 different shades of red before 1 green.

POACHR 02-01-2009 01:51 PM

yep Torch Red is coming back this year....as far as green goes, it better be a lambo green cause anything else would just look disgusting on a c6.

Spark 2 02-01-2009 02:04 PM

I believe GM gave up "Torch Red" and Ford grabbed it.

Look at the Mustang color chart.

Can they just take it back?

Can both GM and Ford have a Torch Red?

I believe that Rick "Corvette" Conti hinted in an earlier post on his EVS website that Victory Red and a close to 1996 Admiral Blue were rumored. The blue might be dead-on as we are expecting a Grand Sport version available on the 2010 Coupe and Convertible.

Changes ???

I have heard the same rumors that you folks have heard. So, I called a local Chevy dealership and they went looking on there Computer, maybe at a site only the dealers have access to. They found that code for the old Torch Red was there for 10 and that the current Red and the Orange were not now listed there. They also said they found something on a different Blue. They wonder if the Blue will have something to do with a Special Car like maybe a Pace Car or a Grand Sport. So, it looks like some changes are in the works, but what. We will all probably know more around the Birthday Bash dates usually in April... Also, If I remember correctly the main difference in Torch and Victory was that Torch had a little Orange in it where Victory was a more on Direct Red. ... I do remember that when Torch Red was removed there was a big squak about this. I think 1 C6 was built in Torch Red and sent to Detroit for display. They were later told that the color had been discontinued. I remember seeing something in print on the elimination of Torch red that Dave Hill finally said, Get over it, its gone. I think the Torch Red C6 Corvette is in a photo at the Corvetteconti.com site...

Cobra4B 02-01-2009 03:08 PM

GM thought a deeper red would suite the sharp lines of the C6 better. They said that Torch Red allowed the lines to get lost. There is one TR C6 and it's at the NCM... I've seen it in person and it looked nice. They came out w/ precision red in '05 that was very similar to the deep red on Infiniti G35s... looked great. Enthusiasts pitched a bit of a fit so they cancelled the color (making PR C6s rare) and switched to Victory Red which is a truck color which is more of a pure fire engine red. Out of all of them I like VR the best... TR is more orange w/o being considered orange at all.

EDIT: Admiral blue from the C4s should look incredible. Especially if they're making a real gransport edition w/ a wide body coupe/vert.

JVM225 02-01-2009 03:14 PM

IMHO: They need to include a green for the C6 and add a darker blue back in to the color choices.

PaulB 02-01-2009 03:17 PM

Red

I remember seeing the PR for the 1st time b/4 the C6 were yet out. I saw it at the Assembly Plant on a rainy day. I realy really liked it and I am not much of a red person. I next saw that color when it was dry and it just didnt look the same to me.

Take it back ???? Any car company can paint any color it wants on a car. No one owns the color "red"

Look at the third post down for a great comparison picture of all of the red's:

PR is the nicest one, coming closest to a nice pure red like the ferrari's have. TR is just way too orange for my tastes.

AFVETTE 02-01-2009 04:14 PM

A green like the sexy Polo Green from the C4 would be sweet.

I'll keep my V.red.:auto:

666victory 02-01-2009 11:07 PM

i agree victory red looks good, truck color or not, keep in mind most corvette colors are on other gm vehicles, don't let it bother you when you see a Saturn rollin with the same magnetic red paint we all hoped was corvette exclusive!

WMark 02-01-2009 11:23 PM

Know it ain't going to happen, but if GM brought back light pewter metallic, I'd be there.

Not my best shot, but loved that color on my C5. Photo doesn't pick up the gold flecks in the sunlight...
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...27_BalesC5.jpg

If I win the lottery, I'm going to buy a Z06 and paint it light pewter! (Heck, if I win the lottery, I'll buy a ZR1 and paint it light pewter!)

Dreams...

I have said it in other posts bring back or add as many colors as possible it will bring interest back which mean sales and include this color my favorite from my 01' an not seen since then, Navy Blue Metallic

There's a guy in our club that has one of the PR coupes. His car's production number 13. Personally, I think it's a much better color than the VR. I do believe it would be a good idea to bring back the TR since it would be unique to the Corvette. You can get VR on every other Chevrolet. As for me, I have Monterey Red....and it's my favorite. My C5 was Pewter, another great color that was discontinued too. They very seldom bring old colors back.

With ya all the way there. The redder the better. I really wanted PR, but ordered VR for my 07. In my opinion, MR and CR are decorator colors. (And everybody knows about opinions, right?)

I wouldn't say that, Jetstream Blue is very similar to Nassau Blue, Cyber Gray is not too far off from Spiral Gray, both of those colors were produced on the C5s, so it wouldn't surprise me to see GM resurrect other C5 colors (and tweak them slightly so they aren't exact, but still pretty close)

keep in mind most if not all corvette colors are on other gm cars or trucks, the pewter on vettes was one of the most popular truck colors those years, same code....i agree though, it looks classy on a vette, kinda boring on a sunfire:yawn:

Thanks for the mention...this advance data we get sometimes is only ppossible thanks to the enthusiastic people that appreciate our efforts and allow us to pass this on to you. My thanks to the people that share what the can, when they can...we had this info for a while and slipped her out here:
ON JAN 29th

please note GM has confirmed nothing and can change at a moments notice, there is much more coming, we are not allowed to say. As my Mototown man and others say go, we will so stay tuned.

AGAIN, as I have said in the past, let's not let any advance data have you overlook the incredible efforts and value right in front of us from the Corvette team. We are in some challenging times, grab what you can when you can folks and Greg and I thank-you for the opportunity to assist with your purchases. Hoep to do business with all of you.

On the GM Locator for 2010, it shows code 70U Name TBD.

Maybe they have the color but haven't named it yet.

You need to hope a 2010 CORVETTE returns and NOT a paint job. Got to get the priorties correct.

You guys can be such downers sometime! There is so much doom and gloom on this site lately!

I would think that if the Corvette wasn't returning for 2010, we'd know by now! But the way you guys keep talking, it's almost as if you're wishing it to happen. It's the same thing with how the media keeps reporting so much bad news about the economy, how about we focus on the positive stuff instead of making things worse by constantly saying negative things?? So my priorities are straight here, I want to hear nothing but positive stuff in this thread, I don't want the silly negative stuff in this thread. Thank you.

I have a Victory Red C6 and my next door neighbor owns a Torch Red C5 and they are night and day next to each other. I like the Victory Red MUCH better and that is NOT just because I own the VR but because the Torch Red looks orange next to the VR.

If we did not have 6 inches of snow here, I'd get them out and take some pics for you guys to see....

ALSO, on another note, I have a buddy with an 06 Victory Red and next to my 08 Victory Red you'd think his was Precision Red. A huge difference in those two cars. That one puzzles me. My VR has more orange in it than his 06 VR but much less orange than a C5 Torch Red.

CRABBYJ 02-04-2009 08:08 AM

I love mine!

If you want to see Precision Red at its very best, check out the pics in this thread. And there were only 30 PR verts ever made! :flag:

Just my $.02

I drive a 05 Precision Red and wish they would bring it back ! I had a 91 Bright Red which was between the Torch Red and The Victory Red Last year at the C5/C6 Bash I talked to a guy who worked at the plant in the paint shop and he told me when the 05's came out there were so many complaints that the Precision Red color wasn't RED enought that GM quit painting them and changed to Victory Red.I also owned a 98 in Light Pewter Metallic and wished they would bring it back too !! How about bringing back Polo Green or Bowling Green ? BTW CRABBY , I'm 1 of the 1274 Coupe's (like you) !

CRABBYJ 02-04-2009 02:22 PM

Lightman, I don't know about you, but I haven't seen a red I like better than my PR. I guess I'll never trade up, unless PR comes back on a C7!:flag:
