Hood Stripes
Hi,
I wanted opinions on these stripes. I have a Crystal Red 08 and was thinking of doing white hood stripes. I was wondering what you guys think of the look and would like to hear from anyone who did the install themselves and how these type of stripes hold up over time. Thanks http://www.pfyc.com/mm5/graphics/new/c61035.jpg |
As so many of us say here, it is your car, you need to do what you think is best, not what others say. Lets face it, those that have the stripes are going to be positive, those that are not big on those stripes or any type of hood stripes will be negative. I have done mods to my cars over the years and if I did not like them I removed them, but then it was based on my opinion.

Not feelin em

I though the hood was just too boring being all white. First I went with vinyl stripes to see if I liked them. I did and then came up with this color scheme, red fading to black and had them painted on. After they were painted they were masked off and clear coated. Then the pin strip border was added at the edge of the clear coat. I then added similar stripes to the roof to extend the look a little farther. I love the look and have had many complements.

Hood stripes are not for me.
|
They look good on the white coupe, so maybe with the right color it would be just at nice.
|
Personally, not my cup-o- tea. But then again, I don't know as though I've ever liked any stripes on a Corvette.
|
Very nice - a 100% thumbs up  :canadaflag:

White car looks outstanding wtih the red fading to black and then outlined. I would take his cue, be creative, get the right colors, and do a professional job. I personally like something that is different and unique, and stands out from the crowd!
Good luck, send us some pics when you get her done! |
Thanks for all the responses. I don't want to cheapen the car so I like to hear what others things whether positive or negative. First off white is one of my favorite colors for a Vette. There is something that is so simple and clean about the color and then with tinted windows and blacked out wheels - it's one of my favorite looks. The painted on stripes looks great. I would have to do lots of research before I let anyone touch my car but I'm sure I could find someone. That said the vinyl has the advantage of removal - if I get tired of the look or want another change.
I would love to know if the install was easy for the vinyl stripes (did you do it) and did they hold up?

Here is what I first tried in vinyl.
. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...tRightHigh.jpg While I wasn't crazy about them, I liked them enough to decide that I wanted the hood striped. Putting them on is fairly easy. Getting them symmetrical was another story. I went through three sets before I got them symmetrical. The vinyl looks crude compared to painted. |
I'm not sure about white. CRM is such a great color I think the white is going to take away from it. I have a TR coupe with the white GM hash stripes and your eyes go right to the stripes. Black might give you the effect your after without taking away from the CRM. A subtle look. Just something to consider. Good luck.

I like the stripes, I want to add some black to my yellow C6 but 1st Im doing black wheels then window tint
|
What color wheels do you have, and what color is your interior?
I think white is too contrasting against CRM. If you have chrome or silver wheels and a black interior, Id go with a silver stripe; black wheels with black int, I think a satin or gloss (depending on wheel finish) black stripe would be a nice subtle accent. If you have a beige interior, then I think you need to leave it alone, as white, silver or black would clash, and a gold stripe won't match any of the badging. These are just my opinions, but I like the idea. |
You'll get both positive & Non-positive responses regarding stripes on a Vette from this forum.. I personally like them on a vette, Not so much thin stripes, but fuller hood & rear trunk stripes. It's your ride, dress it up YOUR way and enjoy it. Don't worry what others say. If I put them on, I may do mine in black with the machine silver paint I have matching the ebony interior.
|
I have a two tone interior - Titanium and Ebony with polished aluminum stock wheels. Silver may work better than white. I think black would blen I too much.

I decided on black hood stripes from vettestripes. It reminds me of a spider and if I decide I don't like them I can always get them off. Thanks for all the help. http://www.vettestripes.com/new%20pi...2/c6hs2_17.jpg

I'm still leaning to larger stripes front & rear on mine. |
nice:thumbs:

The car in the pic isn't mine although it is the same color. I have polished aluminum spoke wheels. I want ZR1 wheels but they look like hard to clean.

A cheap powerwasher might work great for cleaning rims. That is what
they use at my carwash for my other car. I was thinking of buying a cheapo electric one. I have a heavy duty powerwasher but it's a pain to pull out of the shed. I love the bling of the ZR1 rims. Chrome is the way to go. I inherited polished aluminum but they are nice too.

I had the ZR1 rims on my 04 Commemoritive pictured here: before moving up to a C6. They looked incredible against the Lemans Blue color. I'll be getting them for this C6 too next yr. and yes their a pain in the ass to clean too.

Looks great. I like the white stripe. I don't want to invest too much into stripes since I will be getting a vented hood down the road. One of my favorite looks is a white vette with the two black racing stripes down the entire length of the car.

captainbob that stripe job is outstanding!

do it! looks mean. i love my stripes and get compliments all the time. i really like the ones you posted.

Not all ... but some cars look right with hood stripes:
Corvettes, maybe so ? ? http://i2.ytimg.com/vi/avnHfwYGN20/maxresdefault.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ebJRgOjbKq...muscle-car.jpg |
It all depends on the color combo...I don't really like it on the white vette, however if it was a black vette with a matt black stripe or carbon fiber look alike stripe and you already had CF skirts, front splitter etc. it would probably tie in well...you just have to do it right...then again what's right is always subjective...so yeah do whatever you think looks good..wait a minute I need to stop im confusing myself...:willy:

My friend has an 05 z06 and it came standard with stripes. Looks cool as heck but its not my taste. A little too much.http://image.motortrend.com/f/roadte..._Side_View.jpg

I didn't like the look at first - little too "Hot Wheel"ish I thought. Now, that grew on me. |

I have chromed ZR1 style wheels on my 2009 CG coupe. I LOVE the way they look but a power washer isn't going to do it. Others will think the wheels are nice but you will see all the grime still on them. I have a narrow terry cloth covered foam 'blade' that goes between the spokes. You spray on chrome wheel cleaner, then have to go through each slot and hit both sides of the spoke. PITA but afterwards it looks great. |
