how anal are you about your vette being correct?
my 97 came with some great bolt on mods which I really like and have no plans on changing, but I was cleaning the wheels and noticed one of the valve stem caps was black instead of gray, oh THE PAIN!!!
|
When it comes to my Vette as far as repairs go I am very anal, It has to be fixed right away and fixed correct, That includes TPMS, I have seen where some say I just hit the reset button, Well my Vette deserves better than that, I am happy to say that everything on my Vette works as it should.
|
I'm ashamed to admit this, but I once superglued one the little rubber tabs back on the back of a floor mat back in the day...:willy:
|
Very anal about that kind of stuff. Everything has to be modded, tasteful, proper, matching, etc...
|
sometimes too anal is no fun..but man your valve caps don't match..hopeless !!
|
My front two valve caps are alike and the two in the rear are alike, although the two sets do not match, but at least all four are chrome. As long as I keep moving, nobody will notice. :hide:
Perhaps if I place one matching pair on the drivers side and the other pair on the passenger side, hmmm? |

One of the connections to the rear defroster is broken on my Z06. I have never used it, but just knowing it is broken drives me bonkers. Can it be fixed without replacing the rear window? I just had the front bumper repainted because of a couple of scratches (my fault). I guess I am a bit anal. But all of my valve caps match. :D |

I don't have a problem modding the car to my tastes, but I do have all the stock parts to where if I ever sell it I can put it back to original condition.
|
Lol, I am OCD about my corvette too! It certainly has some imperfections but overall it's beautiful!
|
highly modified and continues to evolve, being factory correct not interested.

Nothing wrong with mods. Corvettes are meant to be personalised. I believe the OP is talking about correct and not necessarily factory correct. My car is at the tuners as we speak. I am adding headers, HF Cats and X-pipe to my Borla exhaust. My final instructions to the installer as I drove away were, "please make sure the exhaust tips are level when you finish. Otherwise, I will not be able to sleep at night". |
I'm stumbling around here at Midnight tryin' to find my Q-Tips so I can clean my Car..Damn owning a 'Vette can be treacherous..!!

I'm very anal about my car. Unfortunately, I'm anal about everything including ours cars, home, lawn, etc., etc. My wife constantly reminds me that I have OCD. Anything a little out of whack drives me crazy. :ack:
|
It's medical name is called OCD otherwise known as obsessive compulsive disorder ..... Isn't it great! Means we always have perfect mint cars... What really sucks is when you find something, you're out and can't do something about it til you get home!
|
I'm not so worried about keeping it "original".
I do however try to be very tasteful with mods. Its modified... but does not "SCREAM OUT LOUD" that its modified... :D Toque |
I used to be more OCD than I am now. I still like things neat, orderly, and working but age has a way of allowing you to accept a few inperfections.
|
I used to be like that but car has turned into a monster now. There are some things I have been lacking on that bugs me but that's just me being lazy. I will get to them eventually but I'm not OCD

When I bought my vette it had several small issues. Now it has none and is very near new condition now, every thing works as it should!
Often I get asked what year it is and when I proudly respond 2001 the most common response it "it looks new". The styling of the C5 is timeless, while the C6 and C7 are nice corvettes as well, they are merely different, not better, as far as styling is concerned. For a car that is now 14 years old I have received so many more complements from total strangers than all other cars, new and old, that I have ever owned combined. IMHO, it is worth every effort I have made to fix even the smallest thing. This forum has been a great resource, and I could not or would not have done it without this forum. Thanks guys. |

I had to laugh at this thread. I thought I was the only one that worried about things like valve caps matching, or the exhaust tips being perfectly lined up, etc.
I like to keep them correct that everything functions and has a good appearance, but not necessarily factory original stock. |

Over the years owning eight Corvettes I removed all the bolt on crap from previous owners like aftermarket wheels, manifolds, carbs, stereos, stripes and decals. I'm still amazed how much time, effort and money gets spent on that garbage. The teen mentality of "look at me, I have a car" was outgrown when I stopped buying thrush mufflers in the early seventies. My last set of chrome wheels was eventually used for snow tires

He apparently outgrew the teen mentality of "look at me, I have a car"... ...and morphed it into a "look at me, I have an inflexible, stubborn, negative, attitude problem" mentality. ;) What a trade off. |

Bottom line for me, my car ain't perfect and neither am I..I can live with both.
|
I actually bought my C5 because it had all the aftermarket mods that I would have wanted anyways!
Opinions are like a-holes, we all have one;-) |
Functionality correct - absolutely. Aesthetically correct? Nope. It's a 10 year old car that sees daily driving and track time, not a show car.

I got 4 Corvette logo Valve Stem Caps on Fleabay and now the are the SAME
Lost one of the caps and could not find one to replace it. Saw some on Fleabay with the Corvette logo for about $5. Got them and put them on.
Also found some with a Mustang logo. Got another set of those for my son's over blinged Mustang. Fleabay is your friend.:hide::cheers: |

Cool story, bro. Tell it again, please.
I'm not really "anal" about all original parts or that type of thing. If I had a really rare model Corvette then probably, but I don't. I usually keep everything I take off the car (OEM parts) when I do a mod in case I ever get rid of the car. Some people may want that stuff when purchasing a modded car, some people may not. If they don't, part it out on here or Craigslist. I'm more anal about my car being clean and keeping it away from jerk offs in parking lots that feel the need to park 2 inches away in a shitbox when the parking lot is completely empty. |
Just got a well-preserved bright yellow '75. Thought I wanted a smaller, aftermarket steering wheel, but decided that would be out of place in an otherwise stock interior. Might get a later C3 wheel instead.
The more I drive it the more I like the stock look. |
I've added ~$30K in mods to my car over the years. The only thing you can tell from the exterior is: BSM delete, SS lettering on the rear.
The next mod will be noticeable from the outside (AP Racing Endurance Brake Kit). |
This thread has screwed up my brain..now I can't stop thinking about my mis-matched valve caps.

thanks to all that replied to this thread, I had a feeling the results would be great fun, we all love our vettes and know how they should look to fulfill our expectations. this is what keeps us to continue to enjoy our cars in out own way.

With the exception of the A&A super charger, my 08 is stone stock. Even with the hood up, most people wouldn't even know there was a supercharger present. They think they were looking at an air conditioner compressor if asked.
Except for the ZZ4, TKO 5 speed, Be Cool radiator and electric fan, GM Serpentine belt system, 69 factory sidepipes, 69 factory seat backs and headrests, leather version of the 68 seat covers, composite rear spring, electric fuel pump, HEI distributor, offset trailing arms, front spring tower spreader bar, aluminum brake calipers, stainless steel brake and gas lines, my 68 is stone stock. With the hood down, unless someone is really 68 Corvette knowledgeable, the car does look stock. OPPS....SORRY....I thought this was the C3 section...oh well, no harm done I guess. My point was is that I don't think there's a problem moding the car, as long as they still have, to the general public, a stock appearance. |

While doing a coolant flush the other night I found myself scrubbing the undercarriage with a steel brush and simple green.... wtf is wrong with me.
