Post pics of your old rides - 50s, 60s, 70s
How about posting some of those old faded pictures of some of your old cars you grew up with (and still wish you had). None of mine are especially unusual but I have fond memories of each. I'm sure some of you have had some unusual old Detroit Muscle iron that should be interesting.
My 64 Ply Sport Fury 383/330. Surprisingly quick on the street up to about 80 or 90 when the small valve heads stopped things up. Ferocious kick down to first gear up to 40 mph. Check out my Mom's old 60 Ford lead sled in the garage. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/scan0006.jpg 70 4-speed GTO. Nice car all around and with Thrush glasspacks, it had the best sounding exhaust system I can remember. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/scan0001.jpg 75 4-sp Trans Am. First new car and a real dog stock. Much better after recurved dist, re-jetted carb, Ram Air III cam/valve train, Edelbrock Torker, headers, opened up shaker, 2-1/2 455SD exhaust, cut front springs and 3.73 gears. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/scan0008.jpg 66 Coupe 427/390 HP. Cruised easily at 120 with 3.08 gears on rural 4-lane. I had no idea how old the bias ply tires were or if the knock offs had been put on right. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p.../scan0001a.jpg And then a Turbo Saab, new 85 Vette until my current 66. Lets see what you grew up driving. Dan |
purchased in 1976 while in college, drove it from Texas to Colorado on trips several times, to New York once summer on a 3 week tour of the northeast, graduated from college and responsibilities followed and the trips stopped ... still have it but it's in a million pieces, hope to get it back on the road one day ... and take MORE TRIPS in it ..

Well,
Pics from August, 1974 The 1966 Impala SS 427/390, TH400 that I could barely get $500 out of in 1980 when I left Bozeman, MT, for LA, CA after graduating college. Car never wrecked or dented, 68K miles, purchased new by my dad in early 1967, and my current Corvette, after I managed to bond a new LF fender and a replacement rear fender from the shadow line down, behind the rear wheel, and spray it with primer so it wasn't 18 different colors. The $125K for the 66 SS 427 Impala at BJ kind of torqued me a little bit.... BTW, I drove the Corvette around like that a lot, continuously adding stuff and getting it restored along the way for the next 4 years. New top, finish body work, get painted, new unholstery, three motors, 4 transmissions upgrading each time, add chrome as I could find it. My first Corvette
1972-PICTURE DATE
This is a picture of my first Corvette. I bought this car when I was 19 years old. I am 53 now. The car always sat at a corner Gulf Gas station. I always admired the car and stopped for gas one night and was told it was For Sale! There was no sign. I bought it the next day for 2000.00 dollars. It was a 1965 327ci. 300hp. 4-speed with black vinyl interior. The previous owner kept the car in immaculate condition and I enjoyed doing the same. The first night I got it I drove it for some 6 hours straight, I ended up at the car wash in the early morning hours to wash it off before I went home. I was in HEAVEN. I eventually sold the car but always missed it. Some 10 years later I was able to trace it down and buy it back. It had a lot of miles, needed paint and mechanical restoration. I restored the car but eventually sold it again a few years later when I started my own buisness. I have no idea where it is today. But I still have a lot of great memories of the car. Matt |

First bike, a 75 Super Glide basket case I put together. It was stroked to 88ci with points ignition and an S&S B model carb. I broke so many parts that summer that by Labor day I was working in a bike shop to pay for everything. No one else on a Harley ever beat me from a light once I tuned it up. I painted it some Iveco truck turquiose color and got more comments than with bikes 3 times as nice that were black with flames. I slid it into a rock wall one night and woke up 4 days later in the hospital all banged up. Sold it to help with the bills and bought an 84 FXR a year later.

I picked this Dart up about 3 years ago... it was the 1st Mopar I'd ever
owned... I traded a 1987 F250 Diesel I had for it...straight accross with a used car dealer in Ft. Worth. This particular body style weighed 3100lbs from the factory... it weighed 2875 with full interior and a/c before I parted with it. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...tationSize.jpg * * http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...onSizeRear.jpg Most of my car pics are in boxes.. I've had very nice cars, and cars I've pulled out of the weeds that hadn't seen life in years... I wish I could tell you that I felt better when I got one that was in better condition... not needing as much work... but that wouldn't be true. I've always felt lucky to get most of the cars I've owned... regardless of their condition.. I've had many, many cars... here are just a few. 1964 Impala SS 327/glide 1970 Mustang Convertible 351W/FMX 1971 Porsche 911T 2.2 Flat 6/5spd 1957 GMC Stepside 270-6/Factory "Hydramatic" 1963 Chevy C20 230/4 spd My surrogate ownership list stretches much further.... I say this because I've always felt a part of my friends classic cars that I've spent hours working on.... 50's Cadillacs, Road Race Mustangs, Drag Race Corvettes.... my sweat equity has always given me a stake.. in my mind.. in the well being and life of the cars, regardless of the name on the title. |
Bought in the Bay Area and sold this when I left San Francisco.
http://vintage-tin.com//galleryphoto...ettebridge.jpg This car was neat 17 options. Bought it off Ebay from some guy who owned it for 10 years and never drove it (too large to sit in it comfortably). He never knew what he had. http://vintage-tin.com//cars/66_red_...e/DSC00058.JPG Still sad I sold this one. http://vintage-tin.com//cars/57vette_black/finished.jpg More to follow.... oWEN |
My '70 Nova SS that I had for 21 years. :(
