Bulb experts? Turn Signal 4157 bulb vs. 3157?
I needed to change my turn signal indicator for the front right.
The bulb I took out was a part #4157. Yellow bulb with a white base (which was burnt) The parts store replaced it with bulb #3157 and indicated that it was an acceptable replacement. Yellow bulb with a BLACK base. It appears to be working. Are there any bulb experts out there that know if there is a MAJOR difference in the bulbs that would warrant me removing this 3157 bulb ASAP before it damages something? Thanks! Neill |

Neill,
I do not know what the 4157 is, but this weekend three of us changed ours out because we wanted white DRL's. The original bulbs in all three were amber 27W/7W 3157's. We replaced with clear 27W/7W 3157's. You should be fine. :D Ken BTW - Those new wheels look good, Fikse's? [Modified by MySea5, 1:05 PM 10/8/2001] |

OK...found some info on Sylvania's site...
This is in PDF format... http://www.sylvania.com/prodinfo/auto/pdfs/s8spec.pdf The 3157 and 4157 are different only in their longevity. The 4000 series is a new bulb containing Krypton gases and apparently have up to 4 times the longevity of the 3000 equivalents. Oh well....just means I crawl under the car a few more times a year. ;):D Neill |

Ooops, I fibbed to ya Neill. Just got home and looked.
The original bulbs I pulled were Sylvania 4157's. But, the bulbs we used as a replacment are Sylvania 3157KLL (Krypton-Long Life) and not on the web site. Go figure. I do know that all are 27/7's so we should be safe. I have seen some use the Hyper White 3157's at a higher wattage with no problems. Ken |
