Torque spec and sequence TPI manifold
Can anyone give me the correct torque spec and sequence for 85 TPI manifold? Any other tips on putting this back together would be great.

CFI EFI can you crack open that book of yours and help me out?

8 7 9 10 11 12
Front of block REAR 2 1 3 4 5 6 Above is intake manifold bolt tightening sequence for the 1985 thru 1991 - tighten to 35 pounds. |
John Thanks for the torque spec but if Im reading the sequence right you have me tightening one then the other, did I miss something? Thanks Bruce

Tighten bolts 1 thru 12 as listed above. Tighten the intake to about 10 pounds following the order above, drivers side then passangers side. Up poundage to 15 and tighten again. Continue to increase and tighten in the order until you reach 35 pounds.
On my older chevy, you start in the center on the drivers side and tighten two then go to the passangers side and tighten the center two. Back to drivers and tighten one on each side of the two you just tighten and continue until finished. That would spread the gasket from the center out. Corvettes are DIFFERENT :willy: -John |
Your Kidding Right?? If I did Middle out, alternating sides would this cause an intake leak?:ack:

The 85 thru 91 bolts are tighten on one side then the other per Chevy spec. If you look at the sequence, it is kind of start at one end less one, reverse one and then continue to rear of block. The go to the other side.
If you did center out and alternate side, it would probably work. BUT you asked for the sequence per the book which is what I gave you above. If I can get to my scanner I can probably scan the picture from the book. It isn't too great, a box to represent the engine and then the numbers like I gave you above and a label for front and rear of engine. |

Agent Thanks for the link! If you zoom in the picture shows a snug sequence, and a torgue sequence. Looks snug is center out, and torque is one side then the other. That makes some sense to me. Is the torque 25 lb snug 45 torque?
