Front license plate holder?

I'm about ready to gag myself. Just bought my car in Michigan and I live in Minnesota. They require me to install a front plate. I think they look HORRIBLE :ack: . Anyways, how do I take off the insert on the front bumper to get the plate on their. Do I need to buy anything to mount the plate?

front plate filler

Two screws at the bottom hold the plate filler on. The state license plate will need the License plate holder GM part # 10288541. Plate slips into the black plastic holder and you bolt it down.

Or you could just leave the much more attractive filler plug installed like most of us do.

I didn't bother with installing my plate either after buying my car, but then after about 9 months I finally got pulled over and was given a "Fix-it" ticket. So, I went to the local dealership and bought one of their license plate surrounds for $18 and painted it black. I installed it on the car, took a few pictures of it and brought it in to the traffic court, at which time they dropped it.

Then I drove home and put my filler plate back on,.... and I stuck the plate & surround in a bag with the two screws behind my seat (just in case I get pulled over again) and I haven't been bothered since.

This is what the plate surround looked like before painting it gloss black:

Does anyone know of a place other than the dealer to buy the license plate surround piece at ? The dealer tends to be the HIGHEST priced place around :willy:

Bought this from KEWL, good match, I think it was around $60.

In most cases yes,.....in this case NO!!! You can buy the exact same thing the dealership sells at Mid America for $24.99 + S&H. By the time you order it and wait a week or two to get it, you could've driven down to the closest dealership and picked one up that same day, and paid less for it. I happen to get mine from the dealership at wholesale for $18,.....but the retail price on it was less than $25.

If you decide to pay the $60+ they charge at KEWL, also plan on waiting several months before you get it. Do a search on that item.....you'll find many people here who have had to wait for a very long time.

Just my .02 worth

You don't need no stinking holder. 2 screws will hold it fine. Use 4 if you like. Put a piece of velcro on the cover and just stick it over the plate when you feel daring.

Nice.....now if you can only mount a linear actuator to it so you can flip to legal when you get pulled over. :blueangel:

I wouldn't get away without a front plate in UK

Mine came from Kewl Auto too

And I painted up my own plate bubble on the inside. At least it stops bugs sticking to my plate -

:iagree: You could also get a painted license plate surround to help with the looks of having to run a plate.

If you have to run a front plate, you could get a painted license plate surround, and it will look better.
