Anyone know gear ratios for an A4?
 

I'me debating on a rear end gear change and need the A4 gear ratios for comparison purposes at various rpms for different rear end choices. If anyone can tell me where to find the transmission info, I would greatly appreciate it. I used to have it and cannot find it. No success with "search" either. :cheers:

A4's came with either a 2.73 or a 3.15(sometimes called the sport gear) rear diffs--You can find the ratio stamped on the diff case--This chart will show you the MPH with differnent RPM's and tire diameters--Just punch in the numbers and hit calculate-- Enter the trans ratio as
.696 & the tranfer case as 1.0 & the tire diameter if stock as 26.6

An easier way is to look in your glove box and check the options sheet. If you see the code G92 then you have 3.15 gears. If not, then you have 2.73s.

I have an A4 and the build sheet to my car and the 3.15 gear in a A4...Is Code G90 not G92

Its G90 NOT G92

Ed, I have a simple EXCEL program that calculates what you're wanting. You easily change the variables to your numbers. Takes into account different wheel/tire sizes.

it's both. G92 says "optional ratio"
G90 says "that optional ratio is 3.15"
makes you wonder what other ratio GM may have initially planned for the A4; but that putz (AlGore) wouldn't allow :rolleyes:

on the A4, you can't have the 3.15 and not have both G90 & G92 listed.

So it doesn't matter on the C5 A4.

If you find G92 listed, then you have the 3.15 ratio.... that is a correct statement.

This is by far the best calculator I've found. The f-body.org calculator is for f-bodies and not c5s, and weight/aero play a role.

Does anybody know the code for 2.83 gears in a C5 A4?

I believe you mean 2.73 gears. 2.73s were standard and 3.15s were the performance axle option in all C5 A4s. C5 M6s came only with the 3.42s. Also, take a look at post #10 by Mike Mercury. If you're wondering whether you have 2.73 or 3.15 gears, it should answer your question. If not, maybe someone else will jump in.:cheers:
