How do you change the DIC Welcome Message?
I was reading on the C6 General Discussion forum about all the cool DIC Welcome Messages people programmed when they start their cars - can we do this on the C5 too? If so, what's the procedure? I used SEARCH but couldn't find anything

Nope. :nonod:

someone said you'd have to crack the ecu's code in order to do that. even if someone knew the code I'm sure GM would frown apon anyone reprogramming it.

I finally found a good reason to tell my wife why I need to purchase a new Z06!! Sounds reasonable to me  Wish me luck..:D

with the right tools I have seen it You may have seen a "Photoshop" picture where someone has super-imposed a new "message" in the picture ..... The C5 message is stored in the IPC; without an EEPROM burner, and a whole lot of information on where the message is located in memory, you can't change the message. If you've seen it, ask the person who modified the message for the starting hex address that they found in the IPC memory for the message  |
What's Photoshop?

Apparently its easy for the C6 guys to do without any special tools - its an option in the DIC.

If its a trade off between the C5 DIC, which provides us OBD-II codes, vs. the C6 DIC that doesn't but lets you change the "Welcome Message".... I'll take the C5 DIC. Thanks.

If you can tune the eprom you can change ANYTHING
Burning a new code in an eprom isn't a major activity. Just need someone who knows the procedure. I burned new eproms on my PCAT over 10 years ago. If anone KNOWLEDGABLE here knows HOW to do it then thats that. Not rocket science. :smash: :withstupid: BIGHANK
