Backup camera in a Corvette!!!!

Would like to install a backup camera and have it interfaced to NAV display.
Has anybody done it yet?

That's a great question, I'm interested in that as well. Price too, if anyone knows

I haven't done it yet but I'd like to. I recently drove my Daughters GMC Yukon, and found the back up camera to be very usefull, the audibal beeps as you get closer to something were pretty neat too.

Do cameras exist that don't require drilling a hole in the body/rear :ack: ?

I am doing it next week to my Pioneer D3 . The camera and antenna coat around $185. I think you need this since there are no backup sensors

Did one with a Pioneer D3 that I installed a few weeks ago. Works fine. Works really well at night. Used a BOYO VTL-420

Of course. There are some that mount to the liscense plate with a bracket or replacement frame.

Buy the laser pro park!!!! Not only does it block all LEO's lasers guns, it also works as a parking sensor. Why not have your cake and eat it 2.

The camera part would be easy. Interfacing it into the NAV display would be the problem.

Installing the camera required NO drilling. There are grommets that you can poke through up high in the rear. Works like a champ on the D3.

I had thought about hooking up a front one to my AVIC-Z2. Help in not hitting the lower front spoiler.

I thought of the same thing too as I scraped my 07- c-6 front dr side air dam recently. I went out right away 1/2 hr later and bought a new piece. The cost $17.50, inexpense lesson but still upsetting
Kinda obsessive, but I want the car right. I'm sure everyone agrees.

Now question that everyone wants to know........... Can you hook up a camera to the Nav or do you have to have some video adapter/interface ? ( Would that void any warranty ?????)

Actually there is a spot for audio and video in connections on the printed circuit board for the factory nav. They are simply not utilized in the current head unit. It looks like they may have been intended for or used by another product platform. There is a company in New York that will take your factory head unit, open it up and attach the input connectors that you will need in order to activate the feature on the OEM screen. This will of course void your warranty.

not that ill be of much help on how to do it, i can vouch that it is possible. My 06 had one installed by the previous owner. When the car goes in reverse the touch screen signal is interupted by a crystal clear image of everything behind me. Hope this helps

jvick10 06-13-2008 11:02 AM

i was told i would need to purchase a $600 video input and have to ship my NAV off to the company to do it.....sounds really expensive...that's not including the cost of the camera and installation

Oh, I thought there was word of GM making a backup camera unit? is this true?

Coachman 06-13-2008 11:28 AM

Installed this BOYO VTL 420 camera along with the Kenwood DNX 8120. Don't know if it can be done using the stock Nav head unit. The little squigglies in the photo are from my camera and NOT from the BOYO. The backup picture is perfectly clear.
