I came across production figures for the 1967 427's, and according to this source.

L36 427/390 horse 3,832 (a $200.15 option !)
L68 427/400 horse 2,101 (a $305.50 option !)
L71 427/435 horse 3,754 (a $437.10 option !)
L82 427/430 horse 20 (a $947.90 option )

What was this engine all about...love to hear the story!!)

So...drive your cars till the grandkids put you in the home, and then sell em for big bucks.

That would actually be the infamous L88 engine. The L82 was a 350 available from '73-'80.

The L88 was a barely streetable engine with very high compression, wild mechanical lifter cam, a big Holley, and aluminum heads. In race trim (headers, etc), it was rumored to put out close to 600 HP (Gross rating)...the 430 HP was a very under rated number.

Our L88 version would then be the black widows that were released.

L-88 streetable:rofl: Well yes but don't expect to go for a midnight ride if you have any neighbors close by!! My L-88 wasn't quite that rare [1968] one of 80 but I would guess that number of these motors that went across counter is 5-10 times that which is something that didn't happen with ZR-1

You can sift out the real from the fluff for yourself.
