Gatorback #4060798 or #4060802 ?

Hi all,

I want to replace the a/c belt and alternator belt by GY gatorback. I have read a lot of posts but I’m unsure which is the correct size of the alternator belt for my 1999 C5.
Also I wonder that there are contradictory statements in different application guides. Some advises #4060798 Gatorback Serpentine 79.875 in. length and others #4060802 Gatorback Serpentine 80.25 in. length for the 1999 C5 alternator belt.

The a/c belt is clearly # 4040420.

Is there really a difference in the belt drive in the different model years ?
Can anybody help and reach clarification ?

Thanks for help in advance

Tom

Thanks  , I have found the same information from GY before I started the thread:

http://www2.goodyearbeltsandhose.com...tCarSearch.jsp

But maybe here is anyone who installed this belt size on a 1999 and have practical experience .
Main reason is that I can't get this Gatorback belts in Europe and so I search for a affirmation before I will order the wrong size and won't do it twice
Maybe I will order preventively both belts .

Is there really a difference in the belt drive in the different model years? :bigears

My GM parts manual lists the same # for '97-'01 Gen/PS as 12561501, and '97-'01 AC as 12559326.

These are GM #'s, but they use the same belt for these years. My manual only goes to '01, so I don't know if there were any changes for '02.

Also, I don't know if the export Vettes are different, but my manual doesn't list them as being different in this aspect.

Thanks for research !

# 12561501 was superceded by # 12572188 and it's the same # for '97-'04 .

My Vette is an Europe modell but this makes no difference.

From the Goodyear Site:

# 4060802 Gatorback Serpentine 80.25 in. length
For C5: '97, '98, '02, '03, '04

#4060798 Gatorback Serpentine 79.875 in. length
For C5: '99, '00, '01

puzzlingly :willy:

gatorback too short...?

Is anybody there with practical knowledge which Gatorback Alt/PS belt size fits a C5 1999 ?
:lurk:
Thanks!

Recall looking into the P/S Alt belt differences when I installed the Gatorbacks on my 98 in 2005. The 4060798 belt was only used from 99-01, the reason was either a different size pulley on either the P/S pump or the alternator. Interestingly they went back to the 4060802 belt in 2002.

It's a funny thing for guys with 1999 Vettes......we're like the Black Sheep, we don't get a straight reply...lol.....:willy:

I guess I'm just gonna get the 4060798... who knows...it "may" work :willy:

Did the 4060798 belt fit on the 99? Just looking for some one with a 99 that says they were able to get this one on before I order. Thanks

Goodyear 4060798 Gatorback Poly V-Belt is what I ordered and installed on my 1999 this past winter.

I researched this many moons ago, so I'm pulling this out of deep memory. I seem to recall that some years had a 'clutch' in the alternator pulley - don't recall which years. Apparently the 'clutch' was to prevent the alternator from being oversped, but again I'm not sure. Anyway, the alternators that had this so-called clutch used the 802 belt and the alternators with no 'clutch' used the 798 belt. Sure hope someone can corroborate this for you.

Here are the belts I use. The dimensions should be the same for other brands:
1) accessory drive belt - 13/16" x 80-3/8" (20mm x 2040mm) OC
Gates/CarQuest Micro-V AT p/n K060798 [$30.49/ea]
2) a/c compressor drive belt - 9/16" x 42-5/8" (14mm x 1084mm) OC
Gates/CarQuest Micro-V AT p/n K040420 [$19.39/ea]

My C5 is a 1999...

Just replaced mine last week, 4060798 from Amazon for my 99 Vert. Fits perfect and no more crickets in the engine compartment :woohoo:

I just ordered the 4060802 for my 98 vert. Ive gone through 3 belts now. changed out the harmonic balancer, the tensioner and the tensioner for the AC plus the AC belt. still chirps. if this doesn't work, Im going to ramp the car off into a ravine. will post the results later.

:iagree:
I replaced mine last year using #4060798 for my '99. Did a 3 week, 7250 mile road trip after replacing it with no issues.

I pray that I can get the same results. For those still suffering, the only real temporary fix is to put baby powder on the belt every 200 miles or so. belt dressing doesn't work (and neither does wd40 like I read somewhere else). I read something about using comet cleanser and that it would use detergent like action to silence then clean the pulleys, but it didn't work for me. I use baby powder now because I can get a travel size bottle at the store for a buck and it fits in my console
