Right side mirror?
I was thinking about adding a right side mirror? I'm too old and stiff (OK, actually too fat also) to turn around to see where the right side of the car is.
I have the early '63 mirror style (long base), does anyone know if I can use a left side mirror on the right side? It appears to be symmetrical, so it looks to me like it should work. That would be a welcome addition for me.;) |
You can buy right and left side mirrors. I purchased a passenger side short base with bow tie emblem, but have not yet installed it.

If you install a right one it does not need to be in the same fore/aft position as the Left one. The wing window may obstruct the view. Place it where your seating position needs it. "Ask me how I know"
BTW, These ole mirrors are flat, so the "Things May Appear Closer Than They Are" does not apply. I added a real tacky convex mirror to mine so I can see better. Someone here had a large convex cut to size and installed in place of the flat mirror. I haven't found one big enough to do that yet. |
You see a lot of C2's with a right-side mirror. Here's just a few I noticed while casually flipping thru some car show pics, could probably find another dozen or more. Interesting that the cars aren't necessarily customs or mods, but otherwise stock looking cars, and the pics weren't taken because of the mirrors, but because they're good looking Vettes.
In my Coupe I have one of those wide-angle rear view mirrors, as well as an aux. wide-angle mirror on the right side sun visor that gives a pretty good view of that side, but I like the idea of the extra outside mirror...... http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...ix/CVS5026.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...ix/CVS5051.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...ix/CVS6003.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j.../CVS4008-1.jpg |
Hello John, I installed the right side mirror on our coupe way back when, the 70's! I'm 6'1" x240Lbs.. The mirror is installed symetric to the left mirror and I see just fine. I highly recommend one. Al W.

We added a passenger side mirror to our 63 and used the early long-base style. While they do sell a right side mirror for the later mid-year style mirror I couldn't found one for the early style. However, the drivers side mirror worked perfectly on the passenger side as the early style base has the mounting screw toward the rear of the base as opposed to the side location on the later mirrors. You'll also need the inside mounting plate and rivets.

Thanks Rich,
I couldn't find a right side mirror either that's why I asked this question. I knew I couldn't be the only one that wanted a right side mirror. I just needed to know if there were any reasons I would not be able to do it. |

Do repro mirrors come with the template and do you need to take the door panel off to install?
|
It looks like you have to buy the mirror, the backing plate and the gasket and screws separately. If they could they would try to charge you for the chrome also. Parts for Corvettes are just ridiculous.

Looks like Zip Products has the entire kit. Still wondering about the template and how to install?

John,
Do I need to remove the door panel, or can it be installed from the outside? Thanks |
There is a backing plate to guard against cracking the fiberglass. You can only get to that by taking off the door panel.
I never heard of Zip Products, so I'll have to look into that. |
