I did the cut wire 7 years ago and have not had any negative results since. I have learned to live without the chime and rather enjoy not having it there.

Another GM engineering brain fart... why the hell would you bury some, obnoxious buzzer deep in the dash behind the IPC... at least put it somewhere that you can get to it to KILL it! On second thought maybe they did that on purpose so you couldn't access it easily and disable it...
it's just a loose loose scenario. |

I will tell u EXACTLY what that noise is, mine did the same thing. Inside the instrument cluster there is a speaker for the key in ignition chime. The speaker is soldered to the board. I opened up the cluster and cut the wire to the speaker. It was the most annoying sound you would want to hear coming from your car.

Great info for the problem. Did you have to remove the instrument cluster to get to the area where you could opened it up? Was the wire you cut funneled through the instrument panal so it could be cut without opening up the cluster? Sorry for the questions but I am preparing for the eventual workaround.

Yea, it would be nice to just cut the buzzer wire upstream. I'm looking at pulling the cluster now. I can't seem to find the wire on a schematic.

Yeah, I agree with Bandit 00C5. As I remember from last summer, I pulled the IPC out and was able to crack open that speaker housing on the rear of the IPC enough to slip in and snip the wire. Problem solved. I don't miss the key chime either.

[QUOTE=LoneStarFRC;1589543735]After removal and some of the dis-assembly steps of the IPC. Personally, if I were going to enough time and effort to access the speaker, I would definitely remove it (2 screws and desolder two leads) and replace it. At that point it's not hard to do at all.
That's awesome dude! UR the MAN... who needs dudaroo anyhow :hide:  |

I'm just curious as whether or not it's actually a speaker problem, or the driver circuit/amp that sends it it's signal. |
Well , the problem is that it's buzzing when It's not supposed to ! Like when the car is just setting there with no one in it. Cutting the speaker wire shut's it up and removes the annoyance, but .... I'd like to know the reason.
|
The sound is not from the speaker but a result of something being driven from the board. From what we summized replacing the speaker would not solve the problem.

Huh? You mean sticking a piece of black electrical tape over the illuminated CHECK ENGINE light doesn't repair the problem?

Let me rephrase.....the sound is not a result of a bad speaker but it is transmitting something that is being induced by the board. The speaker is only delivering whatever is wrong with the board.

Noise from dash

I have dealt with this several times here on the Forum. Each time it required the IPC be fixed or replaced. Cutting the speaker wire will stop it also.
Here is where the speaker is. If you want to assess the IPC I am providing that also. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1570380674 http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...zel_howto.html |
Got er done ! Well almost. They are 2 tiny black wires. cut em both and folded them back. Took it for a test drive and no buzz (yea) but now the turn signals don't work ! grrrr. Dummy me forgot to plug in the 4 way plug, now all back apart. Thanks for your help guys !!!!!
The pics were great ! |

I am in the process of removing the speaker and I have the IPC loose from the dash, but I can't get the instrument wire cluster or the HUD cluster to release from the IPC. I can get my fingers to them, but I can't pull them free. Any advice for me? Thanks! Interesting point about the speaker. I just assumed that the speaker itself was the problem, so I just clipped the power wire to it. Problem solved, but of course no key-in-ignition audio alert after that. :-( |
