Need Help: Rear hatch glass replacement

Recently, I took the coupe to get it tinted and the tint shop accidentally scratched the rear hatch glass while measuring.

Being honest about it - they showed me what happened, and offered to pay for a GM part replacement and install.

They have called around, and told me the GM dealership said that the hatch glass part no longer exists and cannot be found at any warehouse in the US?

Does anyone have input on what to do? Will I have to resort to an aftermarket replacement? :ack:

Thanks for any input!

Hmm, just checked GM parts house and found the hatch glass part in the catalog (maybe the dealer is crazy?).

Anyone have the part number? Couldn't find it on the site.

Yup, got to that on the site but didn't see a PN#

I did get in contact with a dealer who knew what was going on...apparently GM has this part on backorder, and there is no plan to make them at this time, or when they will ever be made.

I've been told 2 dealerships in the US have one in stock. But I'm sure the chance of that getting broken during freight is high (in addition to being expensive).

Perhaps a local aftermarket solution is my best bet.

This does not make any sense. The car is still in production, how can a NEW part for a current production car not be available. Maybe call the plant, maybe they could help you out.

Probably because GM does not make this part, rather it is contracted out to another company.

Yea, I understand how GM has suppliers (I work for one actually). It is still crazy that there are NONE. I can't image this would be a high demand part either.

I recently had to replace the rear hatch glass on my 2006 Coupe.

OEM# 10441053 Back Window (Solar) (Antenna) (Heated) is how the description reads. $847.40 for the part only.

Their part number is DB10800GTNY

My glass is OEM- it's stamped with the GM logo.

PM me if you want the company I used- it's in Denver, but they may be able to arrange shipment to you.

PS- They had to order the window twice, as the first replacement window arrived with a scratch.

Also- since mine was shattered (errant golf ball), glass got down inside the interior trim, and has been floating around in there ever since- most has fallen out due to me raising and lowering the hatch, but make sure your guys are careful when replacing- you should not have this problem.
