coolant bleed valves

Where are the bleeder valves located on a 96 LT1? How much 50/50 GREEN coolant do I use? Do I fill with the rest with distilled water? Can't seem to find them in my FSM.

I believe the bleed is located in the same spot as my 95. On top of the thermostat housing, on top of the water pump. The directions on the antifreeze will tell you how much to put in to protect your engine, depending on the temp you want to be covered. I use distilled water to top of my tank. It seems to work for me.

The knock sensors have to be removed from the sides of the block in order to drain it. If you are switching to green, make sure you have flushed every last drop of the orange coolant from the system. 50/50 should be a good mix - use distilled water. If memory serves me correctly, I think the system capacity is around 17 quarts. Make sure to torque the knock sensors properly when you reinstall them.

You may want to check past threads, there have been people in the past who have gone from dex cool to the green stuff and ended up with coolant leaks everywhere. The consensus seems to be if it originally came with dex cool to continue using it and flush it regularly.

:iagree:

I'm sticking with the orange, no problems here.

50/50 is usually the recommended mixture. If you top it off with water, distilled or otherwise, you'll dilute the coolant to less than 50/50. I think Prestone sells a 50/50 mix, top it off with that.
