Apply Rejex: what to remove old wax. Dawn? Simple Green?

I'm going to REJEX my C6, but first want to remove all the wax. REJEX said to use Dawn, but will that really remove all the wax? Would Simple Green be too strong? Thanks!

mksz51 03-24-2009 03:01 PM

Use Dawn. Simple Green is potentially too caustic.

fastter 03-24-2009 03:03 PM

Dawn and then clay.

:iagree: Yes, Dawn will remove the wax. You may also want to consider doing a clay bar then wash with Dawn again.....not absolutely necessary just another good cleaning step. ;)

Simple Green also makes a car wash compound.

Dawn will work well and its alkalinity will neutralize any acid rain residues in your paint as well.

inthehunt2 03-24-2009 05:25 PM

Zaino recommends Dawn dishwashing detergent for it's alkalinity as Shineshop mentions above. Zaino states this right in their instruction sheet.

See attached pic below. Look at step 2. in the process.

I used Dawn and Ice liquid clay to remove everything before the Zaino went on. I sprayed the Dawn/water mix on and applied the liquid clay with it. I know many will bad mouth the Ice liquid, but it worked great for this as well as on a friends black C6 to get the finish clean and slick. Much easier than clay, maybe not as effective but still good enough depending on what you want to accomplish.

That was helpful. I'll take some photos when done.

Any dish soap will take most of it off.

cmonkey713 03-24-2009 06:42 PM

I have used Dawn for several years. Seems to work good with no ill affects that I can tell. I just use it about two times a year. After washing then clay bar, polish, glaze and final wax.

VETTE IV 03-24-2009 07:21 PM

How much Dawn per gallon of water?

C-INRED 03-24-2009 07:34 PM

Dawn and clay are probably the best, but I use that on my car that has Rejex once or twice a year and it does not take off the Rejex! I have no idea what does.

Sorry but in spite of what you might have been led to believe this isn't rocket science.

Pour some in the bottom of the bucket, foam up with the hose and go for it. Just rinse well and dry quickly. Just don't wash it in the sun.

Americas Team 03-24-2009 08:34 PM

OK, what is Rejex? :bigears

Thats great thanks, do most people use it INSTEAD of wax?

Yes, but more importantly, instead of Zaino (inside joke if you're not familiar with Zaino either).

Americas Team 03-24-2009 09:47 PM

Somewhat familiar with Zaino but I must admit.... I have so much going on in my life I cant imagine spending that much time waxing my car. (and I'd like to say that I am somewhat picky about my cars but there's so much else that has to be done)

The Cliff Notes version is....

Rejex probably doesn't have quite the shine that properly applied Zaino does but it is slicker, lasts longer and goes on and off without too much fuss. Like anything you shouldn't apply Rejex in the sun and should let it 'cure' for 12 hours or so before letting the UV rays hit it.

We used to be able to buy it directly but don't believe that's possible any longer except perhaps if you're in a club. I've seen it at the local ACE Hardware store and the website says True Value Hardware also has it.

Also have to apply it within a temperature range, 50 to 80 I think. Help me if I'm wrong about that.

Tom/99 03-25-2009 08:10 AM

Dawn to remove wax, I don't think so.

harrower 03-25-2009 09:14 AM

Does anyone know how long I should wait to use Rejex on fresh paint?

Zaino is the easiest, quickest product I've ever used. I just don't fall for the marketing hype that you have to put one coat of every product they make on your car.

Do you "shampoo-rinse-repeat", or do you just shampoo once? A little common sense goes a long way. Zaino Z2 and you are good for a year. Doesn't get much easier (yes, it needs to be washed and clayed first - but that is true no matter what you use).

Why do you say that? It is recommended for removing non-polymer waxes. It won't remove Zaino or Rejex though.
