how much does the front fender weigh?
 

I know they are carbon fiber but how much weight do they save?
I'm sure this is a repost but i cant find it anywhere.. thank you

I'm guessing he wants to know the weight reduction vs a standard Fiberglas filled front fender(including the inner fender) of a standard C6. I remember seeing the figures several years ago, but I'm having one of my many senior moments right now.

EDIT: I found the info. 26.5 lb per car savings using the CF components

When I was on the Buyer's Tour one of the plant engineers told us the paint on the front fenders weighs more than the bare carbon fiber fenders. Seems hard to believe, but they are noticeably lighter -- just holding the CF fender and the standard fender -- what they had for us to hold were both painted.

Thank you.. at the chevy dealer they told me that they weigh 2.2 lbs and that the paint weighed more than the fender.. i know they were trying to sell me a car but didnt know if that was true

The paint on the front fenders outweighs the fenders themselves. At least according to Jeremy Clarkson.

I thought I read somewhere that the front fenders weigh 3 pounds each. That must include paint.

I'm sure that the notion of the paint weighing more than the fender itself was at some point, purely an exaggeration to make a point, that has somehow now become a fact. I could be wrong but I'm equally sure that it is totally untrue.:cheers:

That's about right. When they handed me my fender before putting it on the car it felt like a feather! 3lbs at the most.

don't have a C6 piece handy (I would assume similar), but a painted C5 fender is 7.50 lbs painted w/ emblem.

Don't forget that both the inner and outer fender are CF, whereas they are both fiberglass on a standard C6. The Standard C6 outer fender weighs 6.1 lb and the Z06 outer fender weighs 3.8 lbs. Those weights do not include paint.

I read somewhere when they first went to paint the CF parts the same way they painted the fiberglass parts, the parts flew across the paint booth. Had to figure a way to hold them while they were being painted

fenders are 4.5 lb

The standard C6 front fenders aren't fiberglass either. They're essentially the same material as the front bumper...urethane. They will "give" a little in an accident without any damage.:thumbs:

i just had my hash marks painted on and thats what happend to my fender.. i was out of town when this was going on so i didnt get to pick it up myself. i just wanted to know the facts..
