1961 Starter Solenoid
 

I have a date code/numerically correct starter housing on my C1. However, the solenoid has the number: 1119919 which (from my research) is only applicable to 1957 vettes. Does anyone know the correct number for 1961 ?

Its not keeping me up nights but I'd like to know if its worth rebuilding the correct solenoid or just get a vendor replacement.

I don't know anything about this seller or this part.

Thanks for that link...on a second inspection my last number is a '0' and not a '9' so according to this fella my solenoid is original. Interestingly my number is stamped longwise on the part and not crossways as shown in his ad...maybe that doesn't matter.

While your talking starter Solenoids if you ever find a 55 Corvette only #1119767 solenoid like the pic. By it , it's the rarest one ever made 12V , it's the only one NOT having a "R" post for any accessories :cheers:

The '55-'56 pass car solenoid does not have an R post either. Corvette different part #?

But it has two post for accessories ( power window seats AC) right?

The '55-'56 pass car solenoid terminals look like the picture that's posted. The R post, or the extra outboard terminal that feeds the coil with the key in "start" position came on board in '57 in pass cars.

I don't know anything about the accessory wiring you're speaking of.:thumbs:

where is Angelina? I have a couple with the same cap (no R post) but different # I only have one with 1119767 and no R post. It is on a starter# 1107627 4J29. And I don't have a car to put it on. Do you think Angelina would like golf or scuba better?

I have an 1107889 1L4 with the 1119910 sol and I have an 1107664 1L20 with 1114362 sol both of which I believe are original. These may be to late to be 1961 and may be 1962, I don't know, but it tells me the sol you have may be correct for the 1961 1119910. I have not seen a number stamped longwise, but that doesn't mean it isn't original. I looked at the ebay and it seems as if Delco may have been using multiple #ed sol at the time. Also the original solenoids were painted black.

The solenoid part number and date code are NOT judged. The starter case should be 1107889 or possibly 1107664. The correct number for the solenoid is 1119919, if you are so inclined. I would just put the aftermarket on it, and go for that date with Angelina!!!! Whooo-hoooo!!!!! Mike

BTW, the solenoid number for 62 is 111910. All of this information is right out of the NCRS judging manual for 61/62 cars. Mike

I left a 9 out of the last post. 62=1119910. The one that you have 1119919 is 57 only.

Thanks Mike -- the correctly numbered/date code correct starter is at Steve's Electric in Clermont or a rebuild....if they can save the solenoid fine, if not a replacement is fine with me!
