C7 Z06 Speculation

I know we still have a few years but I can't help but wonder what is in store for the C7 Z06, or if there will even be one. I know the C7 has a date and is a go but unless I missed something I do not recall hearing the Z06 and ZR1 are official for the C7 lineup.

I was just noticing with Porsche getting ready to release the 998 models including the 911 turbo at +500hp and Ferrari prepping the 458 with a 570hp V8 I hope GM is up for the task!!

I was hoping GM finally gives people the option of a higher end model like a Z06 with a duel clutch auto. I love manuals but I have an issue with my left leg that makes it hard. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything rumor, fact, speculation on the C7 Z06? I am starting to save my pennies now and if the C7 Z06 is available with an auto option I will be in line!!! If not I hope the C7 base car will be a real buttkicker!!! :bigears

What if GM leaves out the Z06 (and ZR1) and goes back to just the coupe and vert models?

Then a few years later they introduce yet another high performance model and all the "I gotta have the best vette" people will just HAVE to get it.
So they sell their current C7s (or trade it in, or just keep it) and get the hottest sh!t that's out.

Sounds like more money for GM with that route.

I could see that happening. They did announce when the C6 first came out that the following year the Z06 would debut. I hope that is a similiar route they would take again. I think with the C5, the car was already out for four years before they brought back the Z06 to the lineup as a spin off from the FRC models. Should be very interesting.

I personally don't think they will bring the ZR1 back again. I think they may bring back the Z06 and have the base and vert along with it.

:iagree:

That's what should happen. A lot of factors to consider:

I highly doubt a 427 motor is going to be in the C7, period.

year 1 - base, Vert
year 2 - base, Vert, and I think Grand Sport version / name lives on (body work/suspension upgrades).
year 3 - base, vert, Grand Sport
year 4 - base, vert, Grand Sport, ZR-1 like car (S/C motor, bodywork upgrades, alum Frame over GrandSport). I'm thinking the Z06 moniker is not used.

Even now, I think the 2009 and 2010 Z06 sales are really slow, even slower than ZR1s on a % "made vs. sold" basis. With the GS in at 55K base, and the Z06 at 75K base, what you get for the 20K has "diminished". It's no longer the widebody, frame, brakes, dry sump and 105 horses as it was in the beginning, now it is just the frame and 69 horses.

That's not a lot of extras for 20K more. And, the Z06 is not top dog in the line-up, which hurts sales of it.

I'm not hoping, but I almost expect the Z06 could die before the end of the C6 era. And I love the car!

I don't think the Z06 will die. It might dissapear for a while and have a come-back. Similar to the Z28.

If and when the C7 ZO6,does come out,I'd like to see it in the C5 ZO6 body style,or something other than the hatchback.

If Government Motors can continue the Corvette at all in the future I expect it will either be a high performance electric or hybrid car or twin turbo V-6 or V-4 that will get 31 MPG or better.

:skep: I think you mean SS. There has always been a Z28 when Camaro was made, excluding the 2010.

That would be an inline 4 not V4. I doubt GM will put a six cylinder back in the Corvette and if they are even considering putting a four cylinder in it then they might as well not make it.

I would just take a 2500 pound 350 hp car with somewhere south of 50/50 weight distribution. I would also like to see a smaller small block pushrod V8 that could generate close to 8000 rpm.

Nobody said there was.

To the OP, I seriously doubt GM will ever make the Z06 or ZR1 in an auto. You can keep hoping but dont hold your breath.

I think we'll be lucky to get a C7. It will carry the torch admirably against the Porsche 911 and it will continue to punch a big fat hole in the market (nobody wants to challenge Corvette directly), but I don't expect any significantly-more-exotic versions to follow it for a few model years.

No, 75-76 and 88-90 had no Z/28.

General Motors' Orion Township, Mich., plant and its assembly plant in Wilmington, Del., did not have new vehicles designated for them as part of broad job guarantees in GM’s tentative new contract with the UAW. Wilmington does not have replacements for the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Opel GT roadsters after 2011. The contract says the next generation of Solstice and Sky will be built at Bowling Green, Ky.

Whoa, Kappa designated platforms will be moving to Bowling Green AFTER 2011? And the C7 Corvette is now slated to be introduced in 2012. And Corvette's Chief Engineer Tom Wallace is also the Vehicle Line Chief for GM Performance Cars, which in addition to the Corvette and Cadillac XLR includes the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and the Opel GT.

If GM stopped making their "iconic" models, they might as well go ahead and close up shop. Would they only have the Camero to lean on? No way.:lurk:

The Z06 will come back long before the Zr1. That's how it's been since the dawn of time.

They never release the better trim Vettes with the base/vert. They always wait at least a year. They do that with every model actually. And yes, it's to sell more cars. They could have released the 2005 C6 with a 2005 Z06, but that would have hurt sales because there were people that wanted to have the first C6s out there and they had the money to buy a Z06 the next year as well... That's just how it is.

They also do that with their "lesser" cars. Like the Solstice came out as a 160HP N/A car and the next year they came out with the 260HP Turbo car.

That's GM, and that's how they do it.
