Headlights out of Sync

As anyone seen a wierd problem with an 03 that I described below and know how to fix? When I parked in the garage tonight and turned off the car the right side headlight retracted and light off but the left side stayed up and light off. I am not sure if the left side retracted and then poped up because I was not paying attention. If I turn on the lights the right side pops up light on and the left side retracts and light on. Is this a dealer issue or is there a way to get them back in sync?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are only three different things involved here. Not sure which to tell you first. The headlamp motor gear is plastic and they wear out. Next is the headlamp switch which has a high failure rate which will cause this and lastly the headlamp controller itself. Its mounted on the right forward frame rail. You need to make sure the two connectors are firmly seated on it. One forum member found his dripping water which is certainly a bad thing for the electronics inside. The first two items are the ones you need to look at in my opinion.

Thanks dgrant3830. I should have mentioned that about 2 years ago I replaced the left headlight motor with the brass gear since it continued to run all the time. I will look at the switch and the headlight module.

I had the same problem with our 2001 Vert a couple of years after doing the brass gear repair. The epoxy on the motor casings had began to break free on one motor, causing it to randomly fail.

This time, I bought new GM motors from a vendor on Ebay for $95.00 each. I saved the brass gears should I need to go through this again.
