DIY Fix for the dreaded Falling HUD Display

9 Attachment(s)
This is just a quick first pass with pictures. I didn't go into great detail because I'm short on time. Feel free to PM or post with questions.

The problem: HUD display has dropped down so far that it cannot be viewed in a normal seated position. If, when you lean waaaay up towards the dash/windshield, you can see the digital readout, this fix should get your HUD back into normal viewing position.

I followed this thread for dash removal: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...d-install.html

Once you have the HUD removed from the dash, take it to your work area.

Re-install. Be sure to check your display before re-assembling the entire dash.

Welcome back HUD!!

For what it's worth, I am of the personal opinion that extreme lowering these cars is the likely cause of breaking mounting bosses (which cause HUD to drop out of sight). Without much suspension travel, the additional shock is transmitted to the HUD unit....and it clearly wasn't designed or manufactured to withstand this additional pressure. I actually saw my HUD make the dreaded drop while driving down a very bumpy road one day. Took my car back to standard ride height. I'd rather be comfortable on the inside than "look cool" from the outside. Your mileage and opinion may vary :D

Is this the same process for the c6? I just noticed my 05 drop this morning.

Nice post of a fix many have been looking for - maybe me someday with my two lowered vettes.

I will maintain my lowness for, as Fernando often professed to us many a year ago, "It is better to look good than to feel good." :)

Cool now I can take mine out and throw it as far as humanly possible,

The housing leaves a madd reflection on the windsheild during daylight hours and constantly causes me to tap the brake because It looks like something laying in the road.
It drives me wild

Thanks buddy

I am quite certain that you would find a whole line of people to swap their dash pad for yours and pay you for the opportunity to take it off of your hands..(myself included!)...

Nice write up

Mine doesnt drop, but I wish it projected higher. Im 6'2" and I cant see the whole display. A friend of mine drove the car. He's 5'9 and loved the HUD angle

Really? I'm 6'2" and have no problem seeing the whole display. I have my seat lowered all the way but I can still actually lower or raise the display a bit and still see it.

My seat is all the way down to, but the up of the display seens to be projecting into the cover. Id like it to come up maybe 2 inches

Wonder if yours might have dropped some? That seems awful low, is your display adjustment all the way up too? Do you know anyone else with a C5 you might be able to sit in and see how the HUD seems in theirs?

Bookmarked this one for future reference. Nice work

 I remember that from Johnny Carson. Billy Crystals skit "You look Marvelous" is from that!:D
