reset "oil change message"

Anyone know how to reset the indicator that says, " change oil" on text display. Oil was changed at 10,000 and milage is 11,800. I believe they must have forgot to reset it. This message appears when I turn the key on, I can pull it off by pushing the upper most button on right side of display, do not remember the name of this button.

Hold the RESET button in after you navigate to the oil life screen on the DIC.

Something I left out, the oil change was last May, five months ago and the message never showed up, does that matter?

Just reset it and do the scheduled oil change from that date and then be sure to reset it when they change the oil again. That will get you back on schedule...it won't know that it was changed 5 months ago...no.

Since you have driven 1800 miles on the last oil change, assume that you have used 50% of the life (overkill but better safe than sorry) so do not go below 50% oil life or 7 month before your next change.

BTW, all of this is in the owner's manual.

The owners manual sort of addresses this situation:

If the system is ever reset accidentally, you must
change your oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your
last oil change. Remember to reset the oil life system
whenever the oil is changed.
The "accidentally" is this case is deliberate, but still the recommendation is to not go more than 3000 miles from the last oil change (when the oil life monitor system cannot be used due to the reset (or lack thereof)). So, the OP has another 1200 miles and then should get the oil changed.

The oil life monitor will count down the percent remaining from 100% down to zero percent and tell you to change your oil. It will not reset unless someone actually resets it. It sounds to me like the last person to change your oil didn't reset the monitor and it spent the rest of the time counting down to zero and then popped up with the change oil now message.

Since you don't know the actual life remaining at this point on your new oil follow the guidance above and change it out in around 1200 to 1500 miles. Once you change it again, just make sure you reset the monitor.
