Need garage setup ideas-pics for the C5s new home

Ok. Just bought my first house. I know some of you vetteheads have some great setups in your garage-man caves. I have a 2 car garage and its naked!! Just put in a garage door opener last week. Anyone have pics of their garage so i can setup the C5s new home??
Thanks to all

I will post some pics soon, however after I moved from Chicago to Sarasota, FL area in 2005, I was very excited that I could build a man-cave garage and not worry about pulling in nasty snow, dirt, etc. from the Chicago winters.

We bought a builder model home that had the residential grade epoxy floor. Be careful if you go this route because if the floor is not properly prepped, the tire heat, especially wet tire heat, will pull up the paint like mine did. After a couple rounds with the builder he pointed out that the housing paperwork did not indicate pro grade epoxy. I got over it, had him retouch up the spots where the paint lifted and then installed the rubber car mats that pretty much cover the entire parking surface.

Again, lesson learned is to go with the commercial grade mats as they wear better. I plan to upgrade these mats in another year after we make some vehicle changes.

Next, I would suggest some nice painted walls/trim and some great Corvette posters, signs, model displays, etc.

I miss my man-cave basement from the midwest, however I love my man-cave garage in SW Florida!

Edit - also, if you have a plan to add a 4-post lift, have them install the garage door tracks so they hug the ceiling. You might need to side/wall mount the opener depending on the height of your ceilings.

And if you have no girlfriend, spend countless hours going back and forth between the fridge and the wall with a pencil & paintbrush in hand.

Cool set up, we may be moving soon if we sell our house, and the place we are looking at has a 32x40 shop.

Hoping for the best, lots of potential.

I have hot and cold water in mine along with cable tv and a fridge full of beer. Oh yes, it is heated also but no AC (I talked about cooling it but my wife told me that was going too far). I spend a lot of time in the garage (man cave) cleaning the Vette and Trailblazer SS. I built the garage 100' from the house so that when I'm out there late at night, I don't keep the wife awake.
Here's a pic with the Vette in its heated garage with the snow on the ground:

And my favorite, looking thru the 2.5 car garage, out the back door and seeing the wife's C4 in its own garage:

Good luck in creating your "man cave"!!

If you Google "capevettes garage video" they did a TV show at my garage last year. Some restored gas pumps and other things that really dress it up. 3 parts to the video. Good luck with your garage

I highly recommend browsing the garage gallery forum at garagejournal.com; you will see some amazing things.

There are a number of people with nice garages. In the meantime here is mine.

racedeck.com ... just to locate your local distributor.

It was ~$600 installed ... worth every penny.

you should buy a rack if you work on your own car

Bring on those garage-mahals ......

MSG C5 02-06-2010 03:36 PM

Very nice! I've been looking for that C5 logo rope flags you have draped at the top of your ceiling. Where did you get those? WCC used to have them however no longer do.

danshill 02-06-2010 04:56 PM

Thanks. I was the successful bidder for the flags at a silent auction held at a car showa few years back.

Mine's still a blank slate. But I got the basics there to create something great in the near future.

Five car setup, attached to the house (three in front, two in back), with an extra cutout for the workbench/compressor. Professional grade epoxy floor. Wired for future lift. I've installed the ceiling fans (not pictures) and have a stack of flourescent lights waiting to get installed.

Front doors are each one foot taller for parking texas sized trucks and the single door is also 9 feet wide. Rear door is standard single sized door. Cheapest AC around. Pop the front and back and let the breeze flow through! Tracks will get raised when the lift goes in. Ceilings are 11 feet tall.
