Z06 & ZR1 Transmission Gear Ratio
Gotta question about gear ratio and speed.
T56 6 speed manual (Tremec) Z06 1st gear - 2.66 ZR1 2.29:1 Z06 2nd gear - 1.78 ZR1 1.61:1 Z06 3rd gear - 1.30 ZR1 1.21:1 Z06 4th gear - 1.00 ZR1 1:1 Z06 5th gear - 0.74 ZR1 0.81:1 Z06 6th gear - 0.50 ZR1 0.67:1 I'm not sure about RPM's Vs Speed Per each Individual Gear so I'm just using made up RPM vs Speed In the Z06 category, would a set RPM be cut in Half or Doubled EXACTLY if comparing 4th gear to 6th gear? For example (RPM Method) would 3000 RPM's @ 70 MPH in 4th gear (Gear Ratio 1.00) equal 1500 RPM's @ 70 MPH in 6th gear (Gear Ratio .50)? Or (MPH Method) 3000 RPM's @ 70 MPH in 4th gear equal 3000 RPM's @ 140 MPH in 6th gear? Which would equal 280 MPH in 6th gear, if it were able to pull that gear, so I'm not saying that it will pull to 280 MPH. These all make sense to me but are there other factors like slippage? Just curous about this stuff! Thanks |
Don't know rpm's but the ZR1 has a higher 1st gear and can attain top speed in 6th.
Check out some calculation websites like ----> this. |

Best of Both Worlds
Just mod the C6Z06 to have over 600hp, but give it 3.73 gearing. The videos below show that the car can still effortlessly reach 200mph and very quickly too. This is what I would do because I the best of both worlds. That, or just mod a ZR1. Etiher setup will be wicked fast and giving a ZR1 3.73 gears as well would be insane with mods as well. Just make sure your driver mod is engaged properly, otherwise none of that will matter.
Just to show how much the driver mod helps. |

Just curous about this stuff! Thanks Only the 2006 and 2007 Z06's had the T-56 transmission. From 2008 up and all years ZR1's, had the TR-6060 transmission. Also the ZR1 had two different transmissions available with different 5th & 6th gear ratios. |
Interesting thread - pretty obvious why we (NA LS7 cars) got hosed on the top 2 cogs - GM knew what they SHOULD have been, but couldn't pull it off in the name of keeping our gas guzzler tax at bay - they didn't have this issue with the ZR-1, as they knew that goose was already cooked.
Sounds like the hot set up is Z 1-4 and ZR-1 5-6. |

I feel like the T-56 tranny on a Z06 its good until I hit 5th gear
I fell like the RPM's drop and loose speed I'm I wrong? Or is it me? |

Sounds like the hot set up is Z 1-4 and ZR-1 5-6. I wish my Z06 had the .81 5th and .67 6th gear, but my highway mileage would suffer in 6th gear, but I would have much better acceleration in 5th gear(160+ MPH) and still be able to hit 200 MPH at 7,000 RPM in 5th gear. But, I do drive many more miles cruising at 70-80 MPH on the highway than I do driving 160 plus MPH in 5th gear. If a 3.90 rear gear were available to fit the Z06 differential, I would rather have the 2013 ZR1(non PDE) gear ratios in all 6 gears. Z06 1st through 4th with the early year ZR1(and PDE option) 5th and 6th gears with the stock 3.42 rear gear. 2.66 X 3.42 = 9.1 1.78 X 3.42 = 6.09 1.30 X 3.42 = 4.45 1.00 X 3.42 = 3.42 .81 X 3.42 = 2.77 .67 X 3.42 = 2.29 With the late ZR1 transmission with a 3.90 rear gear. 2.29 X 3.90 = 8.58 1.61 X 3.90 = 6.28 1.21 X 3.90 = 4.72 1.00 X 3.90 = 3.90 .74 X 3.90 = 2.89 .50 X 3.90 = 1.95 Even through I would have less gearing in 1st, I should have less spinning, giving me better aceleration. Better acceleration in 2nd gear. Better acceleration in 3rd gear. Much better acceleration in 4th gear. Better acceleration in 5th gear, but would hit the limiter at 192 MPH. |

Might need to start your own thread dude...this one is 10+ years old.

doesn't make it less relevant to me. And you took the effort to give me a snide condescending response but couldn't actually answer my question? Typical internet forum tough guys. I go on here to get info and do research, not be friends and part of the community. My z06 is more than capable of 0-200mph in 26 seconds with the proper gearing.
