Which AC Delco Oil Filter?

Which AC Delco oil filter should I use on my 2006 LS2 6liter engine? I have seen conflicting recommendations between PF44 and PF48. I don't have the car and manual with me, but I want to pick up the oil and filter on the way home.

Thanks.
Colin

Thanks, but I am inquiring specifically about the AC Delco brand.

pf46, or pf46e (chances are you will only find the latter)

same as my 05, but I checked just to be sure on the Delco site

That's what I thought, and that's what I use on my two C5s. Gene Culley's GM Parts House Web site says PF44 for the 2006 LS2. That's part of my confusion.
Thanks for the reply.

A 2006 LS2 uses a PF-46E or PF-46

PF46 superseded the PF44. Either one will work. Or you can use the UPF44 premium filter

BevoZ06 10-19-2010 09:02 PM

Thanks for the replies. I picked up three PF46E filters.

:iagree: The 2006 LS2 was the last year that used the 44/46 series filters. The 2007 LS2 and 2008 LS3 uses the 48 series. The 48 series uses a different mounting thread pitch so don't even try to use a 48 series on a 2005/2006 LS2!!!!!!

Thank you, Gold72. I got the oil and filters changed this morning on two of my Vettes. The third one is not quite due, so I will hold on to the other PF46E. Thanks especially for the warning on the different thread pitch.

Actually, I list the UPF44, which is the UltraGuard filter that filters further down in microns, etc. There is no UP (UltraGuard) version of the PF46, which is why I recommend the UPF44. ;)

You are welcome! It can be very confusing for those that didn't have LS series engines during that transition period and do now. The PF48 was introduced first for the 2006 Z06-LS7 engine because GM moved the pressure relief device from the block to the filter. The mounting thread pitch was changed to prevent interchangeability with the older 44/46 series filters. Only in MY2007 did GM standardize on the 48 series filter for the LS2. If you own an LS2, it is essential to know the model year and the correct filter series for that year!!

Some more background info: The PF44 was replaced by the PF46 six or seven years ago (with the exception of the premium UPF44). The only difference is that the PF46 got improved internal media. I have no idea why GM/AC Delco decided to change the model designation to PF46. Why not keep it as PF44? The 44 and 46 series are dimensionally interchangeable.

Thank you, Gene, for this clarification and for your support of the forum and its members.

I'd use a Wix! Ever since I found a A/C Delco filter that was made by Super tech. Or the same company as this A/C was the exact same internally as the Walmart Super tech. I'll use a Wix!

That's what I've been using on my 2006 since I bouught the car.
