clutch problems
 

Is everyone having clutch problems on c6 z06.When I buy is this the first on many promlems I should be looking for.I like these car so much I can get over quite a few obstacles but sure hope not too many problems or even a lemon.Don,t mean to say anything bad about these great cars ,just wondering,and thanks everyone for the warm welcome to corvette forum:party:

I have clutch pedal issues with my 07 Z06 right now...14K miles....I kept putting off doing the ranger method and the day I was going to do it the clutch pedal gave out....If you get a Z06 change the fluid routinely...cheap insurance...dealer wants to charge $1500 for new master and slave install...These cars are very fun but need alot of routine maintenance to perform well....

My clutch is sticking just about every 5th time I drive it... No track use..Rangers way works but it's something that needs to be done several times a month with modded cars... At least on my car... 2009 5000 miles 560 rear wheel...I think the stock clutch assembly is good for 500 rear wheel... Then the clutch tends to be more of a problem...Pedal ends up sticking to the floor... I change the fluid every other time I drive now just because..:mad: I'm not pleased with this clutch AT ALL... I'd be happy if it just slipped and got it over with...really... :toetap: Wonderful car...Worst Clutch assembly I have ever had...Oh well Monday my new RPS BC2 carbon gets installed... Bye Bye Stocks clutch...Sorry for the rant but the clutch is a P O S on a work of art...

I have never had a clutch problem on my 2008.

Ranger Method is a MUST DO!
 

The Ranger method is so important. The previous owner nor anyone
else looked at 2008Z clutch resiior. It was a 1/4 inch of pure black goo. It grabbed
late way at the top. Plus it was light pressure. Much lighter than my 2008 C-6. Changing fluid brought the release point down. But it
was too late . Soon as I added the A&A kit it slipped at 5k and above
in 4th gear. I changed to the ZR1 clutch with the LPE flywheel.
My C-6 clutch held 572 to the wheels no problems with twice the miles.

If you follow the maintenance that Ranger has shown... you should be fine as long as you dont slip it a lot. The stock clutch does not like to be slipped. Also if you plan on adding more power... say 100+rwhp... the stock clutch will need to be changed as well.

But if the car stays stock or lightly modded, the stock clutch works fine with the knowledge of what its limits are.

25+ launches on Drag radials, some laps around miller, 10k miles on the car last year. Not a single clutch issue.

BAH! Third clutch (1 stock, 2 aftermarket), third slave, fourth master, in 22,000 miles. Admittedly, hard miles, 50++ launches on drag radials, lots of street action, 2,000 miles on R6's.

Now, after some "spirited" driving with a 760 rwhp Shelby gt500 my clutch won't disengage at high rpms.:ack:

So, yes, in spite of repeated FULL bleeds with a remote bleeder, not just with a turkey baster, LOTS of clutch problems. Lets face it, the factory hydraulic clutch system SUCKS.

Yes,any stock clutch will not last too long with just under 600 rwhp on the c6 z06.With everything left bone stock and not too much abuse the stock clutch might last for a while.I am sure you had a great time driving the **** out of it,ok if you can afford it.I did the same thing with mustangs ,supercharger,etc close to 600 rwhp.What I want now is a bone stock c6 z06 and no more modding,Tyvm for your info:cheers:

My 2006 Z06 is bone-stock and has seen 236 burnouts and passes at the drag strip, 150 of them on drag radial tires.

I've kept the clutch fluid clean by frequent reservoir swaps and avoided slipping the clutch during launch. Clutch has behaved fine; so have the hydraulics.

Anyone can do the same. Unfortunately, some owners like to avoid the fluid maintenance and can't refrain from slipping the clutch.

Have had 2 C5s and a C6. Only one clutch problem in almost 14 years of owning these cars. The pressure plate in the 03 had a part break off from it which caused a lot of noise. Have never had a problem with the pedal sticking to the floor in all these years of hammering on these cars on or off track.

clutch release technique is ,in my opinion ,THE most important factor with regards to the pedal sticking to the floor....the fluid change proceedure has done nothing for me...absolutely nothing

i have done many many hard starts from a stand still...on street tires and race rubber...on many different surfaces...on both 06 and 07 z06's...what i have found every single time i had my pedal stick to the floor is that i launched improperly for the ls7 clutch set up.....you simply cannot slip the clutch with high rpms using the clutch to modulate wheelspin....lower rpm with quick pedal release then using throttle to modulate wheelspin is the way to go...

i drive many different types of high performance vehicles...some like high rpm clutch slip launches...some don't...stock z06 clutch is a don't

i can say that i have launched a z06 both the right way and the wrong way....the wrong way is usually to much wheelspin, wheel hop or pedal stuck to the floor....the right way is usually...holy crap i can't believe how freaking fast this thing is:thumbs:
