Hard Shifting on my C6
I just bought a beautiful 09 AO MN6 Z51 Coupe with 2100 miles this Sunday and it is awesome. The power and the ride quality appear to be light years ahead of my 04 Vert, which is a great car in its own right. My question is the shifter in the C6 seems a lot harder to change gears, especially when cold. What is more puzzling is sometimes when going from first to second or second to third it does not shift smoothly at all, it sort of feels like the clutch is not fully depressed, like the gears would be bumping and not meshing. Is this normal for the C6?

Once warmed up all is fine, just a characteristic of the car. Ed |
My '09 M6 had the exact same issue as yours. I don't know why but when the car hit about 4,500 miles, no more notchy shifts. It was a little aggravating when cold.

My '10 GS does the same ; however ,the skip shift fuse helps the problem a little.

That sounds normal based on my 08 MN6, will be notchy on the 1st to 2nd shift till warmed up. I have 36k and still have the same cold shifting.

As much as it sucks, the TR6060 tranny does not like the cold. Some have tried using other brands of tranny fluid in hopes of finding one that is more cold weather friendly. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-grinding.html |

Cold-shifting issues are not unique to the C6. I've read about similar problems with Porshes, Vipers and other big-hp cars. Definitely on an 03 Mach1 I used to own. With only 2100 miles, it should get better with more miles. Might want to get the dealer involved now, just to document it in case it gets worse later. BTW, the Z51 OEM supercar tires also hate the cold. Be careful. Of course, be sure to check your clutch fluid and keep it clean: |

My 08 C6 had the same issue in the cold. The other evening, however, it was a warm night (73°F) and I was having issues with rough shifts. They felt different than the cold ones. Any clue what might be going on? My car has 21k.

Is your clutch/brake fluid clean?
I know dirty fluid can cause clutch problems. |
Search for the Anti-venom mod and then do it.
My guess is that you are accoustomed to imports and the effort required to shift them. The effort required to shift the Corvette is due mostly to the centering spring which in my hands is way to stiff. A tiny change in your car will make your shifting far more precise. ken |
