RESULTS ARE POSTED on POST 49 and 50 I just received the results via email (PDF file) from Blackstone Laboratories. I need to figure out how to post a PDF file on this forum.. I may have to use my scanner and post a link or take a picture and post it that way.. I apologize... Anyhow the results looked really good and both oils looked good after 4000 miles on each sample.. It was pretty much equal between both Mobil 1 and Royal purple.. I had the TBN done on both samples.. This test shows just how much life is left in the oil.. The higher the number, the more life you have in the active ingredients.. anything less than 2.0 means its time for an oil change.
The Mobil 1 5w-30 had a TBN of 3.9 at 4000 miles and Royal Purple had a TBN number of 2.6 after 4000 miles.. So what does this mean?? The Mobil 1 had more life left in it.. I could go to around 7000 miles on a change.. The DIC read 30% oil life remaining when I changed the oil at 4000 miles on both samples which is right on Par with the TBN number.. The Royal Purple had a lower TBN number than the Mobil 1.. So I suspect maybe 5000-6000 miles of total life from Royal Purple, before it goes under the 2.0 TBN number.. I hope someone appreciates my efforts. I'm sick of seeing :lurk::lurk: No one else has made an effort to do a totally unbiased Lab Test.. Bottom line is that both Mobil 1 and Royal Purple are dang near identical on wear numbers.. Mobil 1 has a bit more of a longer change interval before its active ingredients break down.. 2002 Z06 with no track days involved.. Yes I do drive it hard consistently and it took 1 year to put on 8000 miles.. I did my best to make sure everything was as equal as possible for this comparison

Thanks, I know results may very because of driving styles etc..., but since day one I've changed my oil at intervals between 5k-6k miles.

I do! I've been on pins and needles awaiting the results. Thank God! Now we can put this behind us, and move on. :topicclosed:

submitting mine next week from my 115K cammed supercharged 99..has always had Mobil 1 and oil filters varied between Fram / AC Delco mostly Fram. I will be sure to post the results

I can see some sarcasm Lucky:lol::lol: I know, I may be a little nuts .. I did use a WIX Oil filter on both oil changes.. Next comparison will be Valvolne Full Synthetic and Castrol Edge.. Results in a year:crazy2:

Which Mobil 1 did you use? The normal stuff, or the extended life. If this was with the normal stuff I would be surprised. Thanks.

When comparing those TBM numbers, Mobil 1 had over 33 percent more remaining life than Royal Purple. In my opinion, that's a pretty significant difference.

I agree....and as well all know ONE test, from ONE batch of oil, performed on ONE engine......is conclusive...:thumbs:

Mike, I can't argue that this comparison is conclusive in any way. I do, however, place value in the real-world type of testing that David426 presented to us.

A valid point, but sure is nice to see some facts brought to the opinion table even if the N is low!
I use Blackstone religiously on oil changes to my Cardinal, and Blackstone has this huge engine data base they use to tell you how your wear factors compare with others--very helpful to spot trends.
I've never used them for the car, but think I'll try them next time I change my oil.

Yes it does, GM started testing Mobil1 back in the 1980's long before they ever put it on the oil cap.:yesnod:

......and that's why I can't help but chuckle, everytime I read this oil nonsense. There is nothing to fix... that is broken. There are C5 owners are in the hundreds of thousands of miles....running mobile 1. I ran nothing but organic oil in all my vehicles(until my C5), and never had a motor grenade on me.......am I the only one? Just lucky? My 2000 Silverado 5.3 has 130k miles, and has been running on organic oil since day one. It does not use a drop of oil, and runs strong. I hear all kinds of goofy opinions on oil, I want to hear from the guys who are destroying their motors, running what the factory suggests(or their preference).

Come on guys, all of you chime in, that have had catastrophic engine failure , as a result of using the oil of your choice. :bigears
