Of note, in this test the best filters were (there is a slight weight for price too):
1. Fram Xtended Guard
2. Mobile 1
3. Royal Purple
4. Aimsoil (tie overall score with below)
4. K&N (tie overall score with above)

Worst were:
1. Shell
2. AC Delco
3. STP
4. Proline
5. Fram High Mileage (it filters better than lower tier Fram, but is built poorly and costs more)

When you say that the AC Delco is one of the worst, which part number do you refer? The PF-48 OR the UPF-48R ????

The Mobil 1 filter is not a C6 Corvette filter, neither is the AC Delco filter.

I use the UPF48R. It's not expensive and I talked my dealer into ordering a case so they could sell me one. :D

This is just a reference to how the particular filters are constructed and the quality found within them. I would assume that would be carried across the particular brands filter lineup.

Then the info is not exactly correct I would think. The PF-48 and the UPF-48R ARE different in their construction.

The latter is a HEAVIER constructed filter.....

As well, it has been stated here on this forum that there is only one or two companies that make ALL the filters we find on store shelves. Their manufactured to specs according to whose name is going on the filter.


this thread has had multiple runs here on this forum. so, cutting through the chase so to speak, PF-48 started out on C6Z and changed in '10's owner manual. Now, the UPF-48R is listed in my owners manual where the earlier version was before. It's constructed heavier because the ZR1's oil pump creates enough pressure to burst the earlier PF-48. So GM now calls for the UPF-48R for BOTH Z06 AND ZR1. (not that Z06 has the same pump as ZR-it does NOT)

But, the Z06 CAN still use the early one.

A commercial contractor once gave me that tip and it was an excellent one. I try not to assume anymore.

The chart is for nothing more than to just see how different brands faired against one another. The fact that they aren't specifically for the C6 is somewhat irrelevant in regards to the information it's trying to get across.

Like I said, it certainly is the end-all be-all report...it's just a tool to help make more informed decisions.

go with UPF48r its the best filter for the c6 and recommended by GM.


just purchased two at the dealer today list price is $16 for one.

Just an addendum...at least both the Mobil 1 filter seems to be of the same TYPE of filter for the Vette. The "tested" Mobil M1-302 is an "Extended Performance Oil Filter" like the M1-107 is. One hopes they are identical in their performance levels.

I do not think price should factor into the grade.

I do not care how much the best filter costs....as long as it is the best.

I hate for this to be my first post on this forum. But I've seen this same "filter test" linked to on forums for years as the final word on quality filters. Ask yourself this before you read this "test". What is the most important job of an oil filter? After you answer that question read the "test" and then ask yourself why this was the one criteria left out of the "test".
