Should we use fuel injector cleaners?

I was wondering if we should use fuel injector cleaners on the corvette, or is it not necessary?

If we can which are the best to use?

:they are self cleanning .(.so g.m. says) but i use chev.tec.in every other tank full of gas .

GM says not to use ANY additive. With today's fuel, "cleaners" should not be necessary. That being said, I use a bottle of Chevron Pro-Guard once a year, in the tank of gas before an oil change. I don't know if it is helpful, but it makes me feel better...... :flag:

I use Sea Foam....a little in the gas and a little in the crankcase before oil changes.

redls3 05-17-2011 11:35 AM

if i added lets say 5 gallons of race fuel will that do the job of cleaning out my system without have to use fuel injector cleaner?

Kenny94945 05-17-2011 11:37 AM

I am w/ carpe above.

Although I use a bottle of Chevron's Techron before an oil change.

Switching top tier gasoline brands is advisable to reduce each brands "tarnishes". Other Vette owners have Techron stories in helping cure or prevent fuel gage accuracy issues.

Just use Top Tier Gas with the additives. I use Chevron and Shell, switching back and forth every 4,000 - 5,000 miles.

The reason why to switch can be found here, written by a petroleum engineer:

The article above is an excellent education on gasoline.

I will probably throw in a bottle of Chevron Techron one tank before my next oil change. Probably don't need to, but as someone said earlier, "it makes me feel better."

Every six months or so I add some fuel system cleaner. No science behind it, just makes me feel better. I tend to use whatever gas is handy 1/2 the time, but I try to get Chevron the other 1/2. Ten years ago a friend who is a technical wonk with one of the major oil companies told me that Chevron's Techron is one of the best fuel additives available. He doesn't work for Chevron. So I try to fill up with Chevron when I'm low on gas and hopefully avoid future problems.

If staying with top tier gasoline brand's, the additive packages are already pretty good. But talking with some in the fuel industry, Techron(or similar) twice a year isn't a bad idea. As for the above mention of racing fuel, no idea what that's got to do with system cleaning.

It's a waste of money IMO.

Thanks for a good reference source! I may change my habits after reading that write-up.

I agree with what you are doing but why not just fill up at a Chevron station and use their premium. Its included in every gallon for "free".

Theres no Chevron around here, but I trust Shell Vpower to have all the cleaning additives I will ever need.

Don-Vette 05-17-2011 12:25 PM

Lucas fuel injector cleaner every couple months.

JW Motorsports 05-17-2011 12:27 PM

Yes keep it clean. I like Techron or Redline's version

avalonandl 05-17-2011 12:29 PM

Chevron Techron once in a while is a good idea.

did anyone notice that last sentence of the "treatise" on additives?

"... If you have to store your Vette (thank God I live in Texas), leave as little gas in it as possible. "

any thoughts on this part, too? :yesnod:

I noticed at the end of this article, it says when storing your car leave as little gas in the tank as possible. I always thought it was better to store with a full tank. Anyone k now which is best?

Bandit1 05-17-2011 01:46 PM

BG44K once a year for mine. Shell or Chevron all the time.

RedLIne for me!

It would be nice if the same fellow would do an update, I think this article was written before the Top Tier gasoline system was introduced. Everyone here will have an opinion about Top Tier, but it takes a gasoline engineer to give us something beside unsubstantiated emotion.
