1982 Corvette crossfire flooding.
Hello, just wondering if someone could help me pinpoint the flooding issue on this car. The car has been sitting for approx 3 years. After i took off the air cleaner assembly i noticed the egr control valve was not hooked up. also, one of the vacuum lines was connected to the injector and the other end was just sitting there. i have pictures of my areas of concern. Will someone who know this car please shed some light? like look at the pictures and tell me whats off?
thanks in advance for your help also, the car wont idle on its on, i have to give gas or it will stall. plus when i do that the whole car shakes and smoke comes out of exhaust, the injecters pour fuel out of them and not mist. had a mechanic change the spark plugs as the car wouldnt even run till i did following links are pictures. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0602.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0601.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0600.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0599.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0598.jpg |
Only as a starter, all the things you show that are unplugged are very bad. Go to any auto parts store and get some plugs for those things and report back.

I noticed your smog pump is missing as well. Here's a pic of my engine with the air cleaner removed.

Don't worry about it you don't need it. The valve you see in that picture is the diverter valve for the smog pump...youdon't need that either. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0601.jpg This picture tells me you distributor was out and is in cockeyed. To be in right the wires plugging into the one side up high should be at the 3 o'clock position if you are looking at it straight on, http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0600.jpg This picture shows me the EGR solenoid is there and plugged into the passenger side TBI but I don't see the hose going from it to the EGR valve. Possible vaccum leak here. Disconnect the solenoid (don't loose it can't find them anywhere) Plug the port on the TBI. make sure the EGR is not leaking...source of vaccum leak into mainfold. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0599.jpg The one that was unplugged is to activate the EGR solenoid. The EGR solenoid is broken and missing the hose that goes to the EGR. Unplu it again and cap the port on the TBI. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...e/DSCF0598.jpg |
thank you very much for your replies... so i have plugged up just like the one in the picture although on the top injector i noticed you only have one plug on each if you take a look at the bottom injector (in picture) the vacuum line next to the plug, than.... look at the same one on the top injector that nipple needs to go somewhere? or plugged off? i have a vacuum line not sure where it cam from can you please send me some close up of both the injectors and vacuum lines?
thank you very much for your time. heres some more pics of what it is exactly im talking about http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...h_DSCF0604.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...h_DSCF0603.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...h_DSCF0605.jpg |

Thanks , alot for the advice, i have all vac lines correct, im sure i figured out the problem, i ordered a new coolant temp sensor, replaced it with the updated sensor which is pretty much the same just have to splice the wire connector... I checked all the fuses and found the ecm fuse was really corroded and cloudy, i replaced the fuse, and check engine light turned off... Good news!! So i started the engine and she was running good with a lil help of the gas pedal, than it just shut off... Took off air cleaner assembly and than tried to restart... No fuel thru injectors... So i checked fuses again, and as i got to he top fuse which happens to be the fuel pump fuse... It was really loose as if i didnt push it in all the way... So i replaced fuse and still no fuel...
So my question is, would a fuse just loosely put in and not all the way screw up the fuel pump? And is there a fuel pump relAy that i can check before changing the fuel pump? And also, why would the egr valve to tbi be unplugged and capped at the tb? Thanks again, and appreciate anyones advice |
Oh and also i just found out from owner of vehicle, that they had to keep boosting it at the storage place and apparantly the battery was totally fried so they were running the car on alternator... It since than has a brand new battery, just wondering if this could f*#K up the ecm?
Because when i had a check engine light on i couldnt retrieve any error codes by using a jump wire In the ALDL. (ground to diagnostics) a & b |

They probably unplugged the EGR because it or the EGR solenoid was not working. For now I would remove the EGR and put a block plate there and cap the vaccum port on the front TBI. You can replace it later if you want. Its not going to make a difference in finding the problem you are having. Jim |

Take your time. A good ECM with no codes will flash 12 six times, three to tell you its starting and three to tell you its ending. If you you get the six Code 12's with out other numbers in between there are no codes stored. ECM's do go. they are cheap, about $125. Jim |
You really need to explore why your distributor is in cockeyed. Look at the picture posted by Tally Ho above. See how the distributor sits? Thats how it should be. If you bring the timing mark up on the balancer to "0" where does the rotor in the distributor point? Should be either 1 or 6 plug.

Jim,
The check engine light was on all last week by just simply turning the key... I get a battery light and check engine light, but since i changed the ecm fuse the check engine light stays off... When i attempt to start the car, i have no fuel... Which is runny because i started this issue with too much fuel... When i was trying to retrieve codes when the chk eng light WAS on, it just stayed lit, did not blink once... I ordered a new fuel pump today, and should be here tomorrow, I will keep eveyone posted, and again thanks for all the advice. As for the distributor, i am looking into it now... The car was running fine like 4 years ago and was in storage most the time. Ill post some pix of dist. Just cant figure out why no fuel... |
You need to figure out the ECM issue too. So no engine light at all now? So if you pull the fuse out does the engine light come back on?

Yes sir, ever since i changed the ecm fuse, the light went off, did start wasnt smoking, than shut off about 6 seconds later pulled off air cleaner assbly, and no fuel to injectors so im just going to do the fuel pump anyways, hasnt been done in years probably. I was told its easier to do the pump through the filler cap instead of dropping the tank..

You keep saying the light went off. maybe you are not understanding the question. when you turn the key to on the light is suppose to come on. When the car starts it goes off...does it do this? |
No nothing at all just a solid battery light... Think maybe an ecm issue? All fuses are good.. Like i said, the car was boosted alot and forced to run with a dead cell battery..

Are you still getting the noise from the injectors? |
