Coachbuilt Corvettes: Flattery or Heresy?
In the last couple months, we've seen a couple of new coachbuilt Corvettes, and that got us thinking. We don't know if that's a good idea... But check out this post anyway!

:willy::ack::U:crazy2: Nuff said ! I wouldn't waste my hard earned money.
|
Wow just when you think a custom cannot get any uglier..

Run, run for your lives.:U

The siver one is better than the blue one, but they still messed up the side styling. Can't see laying out additional dollars for "different" rather than "better" styling. But then again I think the original base C6 styling is better than "second thought" flared fenders and additional vents on the subsequent models.
|
Nah not for me - C6 is just fine the way it is.
|
I wouldn't call it flattery or heresy. I'd call it stealing a chassis/drivetrain and putting a poorly designed body on it. No thanks. :crazy2:

:U :leaving: Nothing to say!!! |
Pure flattery. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so these coach builders are just trying to bring out a unique looking product. But they're all admitting that the Vette is undeniably a great performer!
Personally, I think the General did a fantastic job of styling for the C6. If you lined up all of the "coach built" versions, and the actual C6, without any other factors (for instance if all were being seen for the first time, and there were no badges on any of them), I can't imagine more than 1 in 10 people would pick anything but the C6. And if the C6 had one of those Italian brands badges, and only sold 500 a year, people would still be raving about it. I do love the Bertone version though... |
The blue one looks like they tried turning it into a Challenger.
Silver one is not a bad looking car. But I wouldn't do it. |
Silver one, C 6.5? I kinda like it.
|
Maybe if I was rich and bored and already had a couple hundred cars I really wanted in my collection, then I might consider a 'coach built' special base on a Corvette.
Until then, no thanks. |
Flattery all the way. The Vette is only one of very few cars today where a coach builder can actually put a custom design body on a car. I can't say I much car form what I see but if I had the time and the money I could have something built unique to me. I personally feel the heyday of the automotive industry was when the coach builders where seperate from the frame manufactures.
|
Both the Soliel and Callaway are very well done. The Pininfarina is a retro look, but of a not so good retro. The other two the Endora and Bertone just don't do a thing for me.
IMO it is a compliment to Corvette, to be used as the base for various extensions of design. |
Different and not all that bad.

I suppose that if you want your Vette to look like a Challenger the blue on was nice.
