eBay Find: '56 C1 Raced by Zora Duntov?

We'd want to see some proof, but the sheer possibility that Zora Duntov raced this baby makes us curious...

Thanks! I was thinking this story was "too good to fact check." :D He'd have only been 63 after all. But I figured somebody on the forum would know right off...

It states the photo's of older gent in car is actually Zora. Does anyone know if that is really him, and if so, his possiible connection with this '56?
Just curious,
RK

I think Mr. Arkus Duntov must have sat in a few thousand enthusiast's Corvettes upon their request and signed tens of thousands air cleaners, hoods, shirts, autograph books etc. etc.

You get that right. I have his wife Elfi sign my 54 license plate but she was to old to set in the car. Would have been cool to have a pic of here setting in my 54, Oh well.

Zora never even owned a vette until the early 70's when he bought one new. Actually his first Corvette is on display at the Corvette museum right now, it's a 197x, can't remember the exact year.

That being said, "the seller claims that after it was restored in 1973, it was raced by no other than Zora Duntov" sounds possible because that is the time frame in which he did start buying Corvettes used and new. The ad never said he bought it new and used it before 1970.

zora owned what became to be known as the "Zora duntov mule car". a 56 prototype with a 55 body, 283 fuelie, three speed. he sold the car in 1962 to a neighbor.

Zora's Corvette on display in NCM is a 1974 454 coupe. This car has a set of the 1973 YJ8 aluminum wheels that were not officially delivered on 1973 cars (production problems). I actually took the wheels off of that car many years ago to photograph them when I was doing research on YJ8 wheels for an NCRS article.

OMG, that was in 1989 or 1990. Time is moving way too fast.

I've got a picture of him sitting in my car around here somewhere. He came to a local dealer's showroom for the intro of the 1984 models, signed a lot of stuff and sat for photos in Bill Tower's '56 (IIRMC) racer too.

The harvest gold car I think right? Hmm, maybe the source I read meant the first NEW Corvette he bought was in the early 70's?

1974, that's it! I remember about the wheels too!
