How to Reset The 90-96 Change Oil Light
Be sure to reset the monitor when your oil is changed, even if the CHANGE OIL light didn’t come on. If you don’t reset the monitori,t won’t work correctly. Follow these steps: 1. Turn the key to RUN, but don’t start the engine. 2. Press ENG MET on the Trip Monitor. Then, within five seconds, press it again. 3. Witbin five seconds, press and hold GAUGES on the Trip’Monitor. The CHANGE OIL light should flash. 4. Hold the GAUGES button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out. This should take about ten seconds. When the light goes out, the monitor is reset. If the monitor doesn’t reset, turn the ignition off, then try again. |
For a 90: Step 3 & 4 you will need to press & hold the "range" button.

I need to do that as I did not reset the last time because I forgot the procedure. I do have a question, can the length of time be changed? I just swithched to AMS Oil and extended filterfor upto 25,000 mile's between change whic is more than what I would drive in a year, so I plan changing just once a year. Next spring when I change it I want to send a sample in to see how good it is and any problems. Thought there might be something that could be changed on the computer, otherwise will have to reset it every time it pops up.

Worked great. Thanks for the instruction

The PCM takes into account: Oil temperature and engine revolutions. The "Change oil" light should go on somewhere between 6,000 and 7,500 miles. Depending, of course, on your particular use. SAVE the WAVE! :seeya |

I have tried many, many times to reset my oil light, and nothing has worked. I still have the light on. The buttons seem to work fine when pressed, so I don’t think it's a bad button issue. Still looking for answers.

I'll be darned. It worked!
Funny how the little victory's in life tend to please me almost as much as the significant ones. Like the time I was ... between jobs ... for a time. I was living in an aircraft hangar for $250 a month while repairing my truck. They finally caught me and gave me my walking papers; but I don't know ... it felt like I was having fun. Look at me now. Thank you, Lord! And thanks friend, for the reset instructions.

I wish I saw this 2 days ago. I changed my oil yesterday and had to use the manual. Old school I guess...

manual?
manual ... they make a manual?? hee .. hee ... just kidding! That would have been an option ... if I had actually ever remembered the light was on before getting in and getting it powered up.
|
My manual is in pretty poor condition. Most of the pages fall out. One day I'll try to glue it back together.

Thanks Guys, Worked the first time. All is good

very informative & cool video - thanks!

It's funny. I always have a hard time finding it in the owners manual.. :willy:

No, the length of time cannot be changed.
The PCM takes into account: times the engine is started, what RPMs the engine sees, how many miles the Vette is driven, at what temperature the miles are driven, how long the Vette is driven. The "Change oil" light should go on somewhere between 6,000 and 7,500 miles. Depending, of course, on your particular use. SAVE the WAVE! :seeya The OLM "looks" at only two parameters 1) Number of engine revolutions since last reset 2) Oil temperature history since last reset. Note that the OLM should not be used if the engine is operated in dusty environments or is frequently operated on short trips. Lastly, the question about the oil life monitor and engine oils which can be used to extended drain intervals (Red Line, Amszoil and etc) is a good one. I use Red Line and my rule of thumb is to change the oil at 150% oil life or once a year. That is, I run the engine until the light comes on, then I reset it and go to 50% oil life. You may need a scan tester to read the oil life monitor. I change the filter at every 50% |

It is true that the oil life monitor cannot be reprogramed but the statement about what it takes into account is not correct.

Reset oil light
:D hey guys first day here and this got my attention, I just got a 96 LT 4 and first thing I did was check and change fluids. I did not see an oil light but I think it will come on when it needs to. I think this site is great I am also on Smokenvetes too they never said anything about lights. I will post my info as soon as I can. Thanks again:woohoo:
|
I figured out why I couldn't reset the oil change light. The problem is the Tact switches under the buttons in the driver information panel go bad. You can buy a whole new button panel for $220..... or if you have some soldering skills, you can repair it yourself for around $5-$7. I wrote up a nice tutorial with pictures on how to do it. Should I post it in here, or start a new How to thread?

In this way, you would bring attention to your specific problem. Your "Service Engine" light is not the same as the "Change Oil" light. The "Service Engine" light illuminates when there is a problem with the Emissions System. |
I just got the manual on CD as my original Manual has seen better days
they are Cheap as Chips on Ebay |
Glad to see this.. It worked for me.. Thanks for sharing..

Change Oil Light Trip Monitor Repair
1990 C4 Automatic
My 'Change Oil' light came on and I was unsuccessful in resetting it using the trip monitor and the procedure. After some research, I determined that my Trip Monitor needed to be rebuilt. so, I bought a repair kit from Batee.com and executed my repair. After reinstalling the Trip Monitor and using the procedure to rest the Change Oil light, the light still did not flash. I contacted Batee.com to ask for recommendations. The gentleman asked me to send the Trip Monitor to them, and they would check it to ensure that the repair was successful. Batee.com re-rebuilt it and sent it back to me. I installed it today, June 8, 2022, and executed the reset procedure. When I saw the Change Oil light flash, I was at ease knowing that my problem was solved. Thanks to Batee.com for their support, and I encourage everyone to use them for Corvette electronic parts repairs. **Problem solved** |

I do not have any personal experience with Batee.
BUT, I have heard GREAT things about their workmanship & customer service! Thanks for sharing your story. |
