L88s at Scottsdale

Two L88 Corvettes just sold this weekend at the Scottsdale auctions. The first was an orange 69 L88 coupe that was unrestored and has won a benchmark award. It sold at Gooding and Company for 451K. The second was a silver 68 convertible that sold at Russo Steele for 625K. It was a fully documented original drivetrain car and was nicely restored.

I owned the silver L-88 for 3 years. Never thought value would go that high! Guess at that price I would't be running at road race track again. Can't picture owning car and removing side pipes that came with it new.

Are you talking about the actual car that was auctioned at Russo Steele yesterday? Since 68s did not come with side pipes, I am assumming that the car had the Kustom headers when new. I will try to post a link of the cars.

Hopefully, these links will work.http://www.goodingco.com/car/1969-ch...Corvette/14261

After being all "actioned out" this week it seems like those that can afford it will "pay" for what they want.
At 625K the new owner had to have THAT car. A fortunate situation for the seller......and Russo and Steele.

Never seen a 68 silver vert L-88. Would love to see pics. (having problems with links - will try later)

working now.. :)

When I had car it had Kustom header sidepipes. At that time it was $50. for a tank of racing gas to run it! Another one of those should have kept it cars!!

If you're rich or poor, it's good to have money!

If I spent that kind of money, I'd be afraid to drive it, mostly because of other bad drivers getting to close to get a good look!

It sure is pretty!

Glenn

I just heard that the orange L88 is going to China.

Not sure, if ever but hope that car finds its way back on US highways someday. Meanwhile, I hope the new owner shows it well earned respect and especially, if he drives it.

SBR 01-23-2012 08:01 PM

I was just told that the man who bought the car may live in the states so hopefully it will stay in the USA.
