Parking lights

Can you turn on your parking light on with out your head lights coming up? Why I ask this I would like to turn on fog light and use them for day light running lamps but when I try my head lights come up and it looks wierd thank you

Just tried it on my '99 and it worked just fine. Multifunction switch to parking lights only, do not go to the headlamp position, then turn on the fogs. Now some states, its illegal to run things like this but yes, I agree that it looks cool.

My 02 will run the parking lights and fog lights without the main headlights opening.

Parking Lgts

Turn on the Headlights then the parking/fog lights then turn the headlights to park

DeeGee 02-23-2012 01:07 PM

Thats the way the system should work. From off to park leaves the headlights down but parking lights on. The fogs will work in that position.

Going to full headlights and backing off will leave the headlights up.

I often leave the lights down and use fog lights in low light or at dusk.

You may have a problem with your headlight gears.

How is it illegal to run with your parking lights and/or fog lights on during the day?

Because in some states "parking lights" are only legal for parking, not driving. That tells everyone else that you're parked.

Interesting, I never knew that! I guess I didn't realize the term "parking" light was literal.

I remember that in Calif., it is or was illegal to drive with parking lights only. I don't know if it still is. Its probably a state by state thing.

:iagree: When driving, may only be used with headlights on, or when used as a turn signal.

TorchRedRocket 02-23-2012 08:46 PM

But aren't the daytime running lights essentially the same thing as having your parking lamps on?

2KFRC5 02-23-2012 09:29 PM

When parking lights are on, so are your taillights and dash lights, not so with your DRLs.

Other than that, they almost look the same. :D

alxltd1 02-23-2012 10:19 PM

Works fine on my 2000. If you flash your hi beams with them down they won't rise but the fogs will flash. I use it along with the wave at other vettes :seeya. Just a random thought.:D

C5FORFUN2 02-23-2012 10:44 PM

I run my park light and fogs all the time without the lights up. Just call them marker lights instead of parking lights and it will be all legal

01 RAGTOP 02-24-2012 12:00 AM

When I turn my parking lights on my headlamps go up also but do not come on.

It works with my '99 also.

I use the parking lamps with the fog lights the same way also. I use the fog lamps when I want to be seen (like dusk etc.), and the headlights when I need to see better.

Mercedes actually have posistions on the light switch to only turn on the parking lights, left side, right side or all around. There are some municipalities that require parking lights when parked on public streets at night. Mercedes in a battery saving mode allows the parking lights to be displayed on the street side only if one wishes.
