1,870 HP so far.. New Texas Mile Build
Top Speed Corvette C5 Z06
Built and Tuned by Hinson Motorsports 4-27-2012 We have arrived at the Ohio Mile! http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar37.JPG http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar36.JPG http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar35.JPG http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar34.JPG 3-23-2012 Unfortunately, we had to postpone the trip to Texas. We simply ran out of time to test before the race, and that is a long haul to ride untested. So we're planning to attend the Ohio Mile, which has 4 events this year. We'll be tested and ready. http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar33.jpg 3/23/2012 New numbers are in! 2,246 HP @ 7,800 RPM 34 psi http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/EngineDyno1.jpg http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar32.jpg 3-20-2012 We made our first pulls on the engine dyno! We made 1,870 horsepower on low timing and 27psi. We're turning up the boost and timing tomorrow. We'll run out of injector around 2,400 horsepower. Special thanks to Young's Performance, Lane Culver, Butler Performance, Ryan Carpenter, Buddy Anderson, and Noah Mitros for making this happen so quickly. 3-20-2012 We are headed for the Texas Mile on March 23-25! We are thrashing to complete the project now (3/20/12). We ran 224 mph on low boost with our previous build. We're looking to beat our own record and eventually compete for the world record for the fastest piston powered car. This new car is a combination of C5 and C6 parts resulting in extreme performance. We have built on the information gained from our previous car, and this ride is looking to push the boundaries for standing mile racing. http://hinsonsupercars.com/Images/C5Racecar30.jpg Build Specs Shortblock 427ci RHS Aluminum Tall Deck Block (Assembly & Machining by Butler Performance) Callies Ultra Center Counter Weight Billet Crankshaft Aluminum Connecting Rods Diamond Pistons Custom High Capacity Oil Pan from Doug Lee Engineuity Top End TEA Trickflow 245cc Cylinder Heads Crower Roller Rocker Arms Comp Pushrods Custom Comp Solid Roller Camshaft GM EFI Carb Style Intake Manifold Turbo System Custom Turbo Setup with 118mm Turbo 5" Downpipe Custom Air/Water Intercooler Tial Blow Off Valves Tial Wastegate Computer & Fuel Holley EFI Dominator System Bosch 160 lb Injectors FuelLab Fuel Pumps & Regulator Transmission & Rear Differential RPM TR6060 Transmission RPM ZR1 Differential with Quaiffe LSD SPEC Twin Disk Clutch Roll Cage & Body 25.5 Roll Cage Custom Adjustable Rear Wing Wheels & Tires True Forged Wheels 18x12 & 18x10 Hoosier R6 Tires 345/35/18 & 275/35/18 http://hinsonsupercars.com/images/C5Racecar1.JPG This is a custom tall deck 427ci solid roller engine built in partnership with Butler Performance. |
Wowzers!!!!!
|
Why not use a coupe for better aero?
|
Be carefull not to step in front of that sick turbo when it's spinning high rpm's. Freacking suck you in like a jet engine dammmmmmmmmm. Need one of those for my car and toss my f-1.:yesnod::yesnod:

Maybe just fab'in up a piece to attach the top roof to the rear deck (essentially creating a coupe type airstream)... |
Crazy HP numbers mang! Great looking car and the Fab work is out of this world. Looks so clean and well put together. Great job guys.
|
After all that work/money/time, why bother with an unmodified GM manifold? Seems like a custom piece (equal runner length with a plenum) would be a drop in the bucket compared to the price of the build so far, especially since you have already given up on the stock hood.
Not trying to hate, just wondering out loud. I love this build and I am looking forward to seeing the mile times! Jack |
Very nice!! Looking forward to see it go down the mile this weekend!
|
New numbers are in! :D
2,246 HP @ 7,800 RPM 34 psi |

OMG I would have been running for cover at the end of that dyno. Awesome!
|
So you have down force on the rear what are you doing to keep the nose down?
|
That is out of control - over 2,000 HP :willy:
Can't wait to see the mile - Will you have video of the mile run too? Thanks,Matt |

is the old 76mm bolt on kit getting used? im in the market for one at the moment...
|
So.....how'd it do?...
|
Just read on their FB page, they did not make it due to lack of testing time. I think this is a good move, nothing like making a maiden voyage at 230+mph...
Good luck guys.... |
Unfortunately, we had to postpone the trip to Texas. We simply ran out of time to test before the race, and that is a long haul to ride untested. So we're planning to attend the Ohio Mile, which has 4 events this year. We'll be tested and ready.

Best of luck in Ohio. I'll looking forward to you posting up a video of the run.
What is the record you're trying for (Class and time/speed)? What are your expectations? Besides the monster motor, what have you done to the suspension and aero to give it the best chance for staying planted yet slippery? Just curious. What's the chances of going to the Salt Flats for a top speed run? |
Best of luck. That's an amazing machine.
|
|
GOOD LUCK! Look forward to hearing how you guys do.
I was a participant at the March 2011 Texas mile. Pulling for you and sending good juju your way:thumbs: |
Keep us updated!!!
|
Keep us posted ... can't wait for results. Sure wish I was there to rute you on.

:lurk:
|
We need some update please? :D

C6 thread says updates are coming.

This video documents our first "one mile" pass in our new turbo Corvette racecar. It was a speed limited licensing pass for the East Coast Timing Association (www.ecta-lsr.net). We're excited to be back on the track, and we're looking forward to pushing the car this year. Enjoy!

What size rear tire are you running? Thanks!
|
Sounds like a F'n jet!
|
Screw the Texas mile... put some wings on the side and go fly that thing.
|
So awesome. So when do you guys get to run the 2khp run?
|
Congrats guys. Looks and sounds amazing. Although it wasn't a full pass it scares me when your driver isn't driving through the parachute deployment. I'd hate to see the rear get lose again on such a beautiful car. Keep up the great work and we look forward to seeing more passes.
|
bump
|
We didn't make more runs because of the weather and quantity of cars. Yes, that licensing pass will count towards future events. We're planning to head back to Ohio in late September to run the car again.
|
|
Any updates to this????
|
Found this from the online magazine www.LSXTV.com. We had a fuel system issue on the dyno. We've fixed that, and we're preparing for a run in Ohio this weekend. Come see us at the www.ECTA-LSR.net meet in Wilimington, OH.

We are racing at the ECTA Ohio mile this weekend. Our first pass out of the trailer was a speed limited run of 222mph. This sets a new class record for BBG/SS on our lowest power setting!
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...43031401_n.jpg |
Care to share how do you put all that power at the back?????? How can you make that drivetrain hold up or is it converted to live axle?
Thanks |
Good luck this weekend!
Turn that monster up!! You need to be in the 250s to blast some of these Supras/Lambos down here at the Texas Mile. You have plenty of power for em... Way to represent the C5 crowd! |
wOw....just WOW!!!

Fastest Supra is 24Śmph they need 253+mph for Camaro and Ford GT For the new record  Good luck guys , Get lots of vids and be safe :woohoo: |
Yeah 257 for the Ford GT..
I don't see that one getting broken for a while.. There has also been a UGR lambo go 250... Gonna damn sure need 1800+ to run 260mph and that's if you can some what make it stick... Which I doubt on a 2 wd.. |
Holy Hell! That is crankin.
|
Awesome!!!
Don't think it would pass smog test here in SoCal! :D |
Hinson Motorsports now owns the ECTA all time car record at 244 mph! We set this on our second warm up pass of the weekend. We will turn up the power tomorrow and try again!

how much boost were you at on that run?
|
Didn't they run 244 already?
|
awesome !
|

|
:lurk:
|
I'm sure if they improved we would here about it!! But if not? This is BS.!!! 244 is awesome !! If you bad a bad day just say so!!
Remo |
244 is pretty awesome...makes me marvel at the engineering that goes into a Buggatti to get it up to the 260 mph range on 1100 HP....this car is around 2000 HP, but I bet it cost a lot less than $1,000,000 to build lol
amazing work guys, and makes me feel pretty good about putting one of your retail big single turbo systems in my car...i.e. the more you push the technology to its absolute limits, the better quality deliverable you will have engineered into your retail systems. great job! |
as an aside, how are you guys coming along with the air-to-air intercooler for your retailed system?...I'm waiting on that to pull the trigger on one of your setups.

you have a point there...they are usually coming of a high speed banked curve to start the high speed run in the Buggatti tests from what I've seen. shame we haven't heard back from Hinson on their second day of running. Personally, even if they broke the car on the second day I think it bodes well for buying their systems, because pushing it till it breaks is how you improve an end product :-) |
