The 40-Year-Old Stingray
Read it Here: The 40-Year-Old Sting Ray
Older cars tend to get shuffled around throughout their lives, so it's nice to hear of a car sticking with it's owner for a longer than average time. Such is the case with this '66 Sting Ray that's been with it's owner for a solid 40 years. The best part? It looks great. |
I've owned my 65' coupe for 35 years, it's grown up with me. I bought it after my visit to the 2nd annual Pomona Swap Meet. If there is any interest I will post a story and pics.

My trip two years ago was to meet long time owners....many 40 to 50 year owners.
I bought mine (1966 Roadster) from a Navy Pilot in 1970 and I am the second owner Post of trip is sticky http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...tes-await.html Here is the car http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/u...eriordone1.jpg |
October 2012 will be 47 years! I bought my 1964 Roadster in Oct 1965 - still have it. I am the 2nd Owner. It's been with me the whole time. I had to have the car put in my father's name initially - too young and no credit. The original payment was $60.57 per month and the selling cost was $3295.00. I traded in a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS and paid $1146.25 difference. I still have the original sales agreement. Those were the days. I have located the original owner and he remembers ordering the car and exactly what he traded in. Car is currently undergoing a WELL DESERVED total frame off restoration. I will have touched almost every nut & bolt on the car when complete. Body is painted and the frame and driveline are in their final stages of assembly. Car is Silver Blue, black seats, black top, 365 HP with rare T.I. ignition, 4:11 posi. My plan is to enjoy the car when complete.

The title would work a little better if it read "Sting Ray." :willy:
From what I can tell, there are more than a few on the C1-2 Forum who have owned their cars since new or near near. :yesnod: |
I bought the 66 right after i turned 18, I paid $1,150.00 in 1974. :D

I ordered mine in November of 1966 and took delivery in April of 1967---------so it's just a little over 45 years.
I wonder if there are any other original owners of 427/435 Vettes? http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...5/DSCN0116.jpg |
40 years isn't unusual around here!:lolg:
36 years for me. |

there is a guy in our club that bought his '66- 427 Convert new, it was stolen twice and he got it back both times mostly undamaged, he still has it....

Like father, Like son
My dad got his 1973 convertible in 1974, modified it tastefully and had it until he passed away in 2010, the car now belongs to me but will always be 'dads corvette'
Mine is a 1988 convertible that I've owned for 7 years, and will continue to own until I pass away. (thats my plans) Mine is also tastefully modified, paint work is in the process of being designed. |
I am the third owner of my original 1963 Z06 coupe. I bought it in April 1975. Both previous owners are still alive and healthy. It has been invited to race at Monterey twice, in 2005 and 2009:D

I thought this was going to be about a 72 vette. :leaving:

I've owned my '66 coupe since October of '68 when I traded a new Pontiac GTO (plus cash) for it.
When I came home from Vietnam ' September of '65 I purchased a '65 250 hp Corvette roadster (that's what we called 'em in those days) from a good friend and I drove it the month I was home on leave before storing until February of '68 when I got out of the Army. After driving the Vette for a couple of months I decided to trade it in for a new GTO, so in June that Vette was traded for a loaded GTO. The day I picked the Pontiac up from the dealer I realized I'd really made (for me) a dumb trade and the search was on for another Corvette. To make a long story short, after a deal on a '68 Vette fell through, I happened to see my '66 sitting in a dealer's showroom where, after trying the '66 out, some money changed hands along with the title for a new GTO and the '66 Corvette coupe has been with me ever since. The paint, interior, spare tire, chrome, headlights and just about everything else on my '66 is original equipment, and there is still under 41,000 miles on it. It's a member of the family at this point that has provided a lot of car show and auto cross/gymkhana fun. http://inlinethumb49.webshots.com/32...600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/91...600x600Q85.jpg It still looks pretty good when a little time is spent cleaning it up. http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/49...600x600Q85.jpg |
