Does dynamatting the cabin make much of a difference?
 

So I keep hearing that the stock bose system is garbage, so I decided to get some nice speakers installed, along with an amp and sub. I don't really want to swap out the stock nav system, though. I figured while they have my car, I might get the entire cabin lined with dynamat.

Has anyone done this? Does is seem to help the audio quality, or reduce road noise at all? Is it worth the $1000 to do it?

It does help in a noticable way. Don't know if it is $1,000 worth.
I did my own and spent $1,500 on Raamat, Ensolite, 12" sub, self made fiberglass box, 6 1/2" components, Arc Audio amps, and wiring. All that made a huge diference.

It is not the same vehicle, but I had the interior of my Camaro gutted and installed DynaMat an DynaPad throughout the complete interior of the vehicle as well as a complete custom sound system. It made a large difference in the quality of the sound and the deadening of noise. I have headers and ZL1 Camaro dual-mode exhaust and there is minimal cabin noise.

I have always wanted to do the dynamatting as well to a car. For those that have had it done...I have 2 questions.

1. How much weight does it at tho have the whole car done right.

2. I have always been concerned that things never seem to go back into place as tight as the once were when it is all put back together.

Is that true?

Mine is dynamated in the trunk from a previous owner, haven't pulled up carpet up front yet. Unfortunately mine was also gutted of the stereo... :/

I still seem to get waaaaay more road noise from the rear than I'd like to hear.

I did the insulation kit from madvette(if I am correct) and dynamatted the trunk area and behind the seats in my Z06. It made a huuuuuge difference in road and exhaust noise. Also the cabin stayed way cooler.

i'd also like to know what it means in terms of weight. I thought there might even be a weight advantage of removing the crappy insulation under the carpet and just using the dynamatt material, but i havent seen any results.

There really isn't much in the sense of insulation on these cars. I'm sure if you did the whole car it would be in the 100-150lb range.

Dynamat is the name brand of the industry but is VERY expensive. There are competing products on the market for less $$. I used "fatmat" on my '68 Camaro and cant imagine Dynamat being any better quality.

My interior was fully dynomatted by the previous owner. Not sure on the weight it added but the noise and temps are noticeably different inside than other Zs I've been in. Not sure that I would have coughed up the money and time to do it but it is a huge difference.

i just bought 3 boxs of dynamat xtreme. Each has 9 pieces of 18x32 (36 square feet) and they were $150 each on ebay with free shipping. i'm trying to eliminate cabin noise and heat. My next mod is a set American Racing headers and with the heat that comes from my exhaust tunnel now i want to start with this. Each box is 22lbs (that includes weight of box, on website each pieces is said to weigh 1.8lbs) so if i use all 3, which i doubt i would be adding approximately 66lbs. I did the doors last weekend and will complete the entire cabin and rear tomorrow afternoon and all day Saturday. On Sunday i am doing a Vette run up big bear mountain where the heat will be off the chart. I will report Monday with how well it worked and pics of completed cabin. here are pics of my doors, i did the entire inner panel behind the speakers & rubber door then the outer panel. the doors feel very heavy and solid, like a S500 benz.

There's that saying that 100lbs equal 10hp. I will gladly lose 20hp for the comfort factor provided by a fully insulated car.

Dynamatting our shop Z06 reduced the cabin decibel level by over 15...

Try the block-it kit from Vendor TKO! Works well for 200. and easy removed and looks good :rock:
