Back into a Z06

I had a 2007 Z06 a few years back but had to sell it. After that I had another project car with an LS3 that I just sold. Just found this 2009 and it is a blast so far.

I am still trying to figure out what parts are going back to stock. It may be a little too "showy" for me. For now I will be driving it the way it is. In the future I will be selling the ZR1 splitter and also the rear spoiler. Will be picking up a OEM hood locally, so I will see how that looks on there compared to the Specter Werks CF one. ZR1 spoiler is on the way, then a complete detail.

Nice!

Personally, I get what you're saying - I would swap out the hood for an OEM unit and then think on it for a while. I think it would look very clean as the splitters are essentially OEM options in later years.

I'm not a big fan of black, but this car looks good enough to change my mind with the wheels and 3LZ - really just a tastefully modded 2009 (less the aftermarket hood).

Looks good!! Maybe just ditch the hood and go from there

camirocz 12-02-2012 04:11 PM

I agree get ris of the hood the rest looks great.

Mookster 12-02-2012 04:58 PM

Was your E36 for sale on M3F?

Congrats on the new ride!

Too-Fast 12-02-2012 04:59 PM

Sharp looking car, I would leave everything alone except for the hood and replacing the rear spoiler with what you have ordered. Hopefully there are no holes drilled where the current spoiler curves over :hide: welcome back and best of luck with it.

CKSIX 12-02-2012 05:13 PM

Nice ride, looks just like my new Z.

tim414 12-02-2012 05:33 PM

to OP...all,

why do you NOT like that hood?

I have been thinking about the OEM 427 hood for mine....I do see that one is really raised at the rear of it....I do like the vents though. That might certainly help w/temps in this Texas heat....

But, I do tend to like the raised look of the 427 Verts.

Random84 12-02-2012 05:38 PM

For a track car, I agree the louvered hood is functional - it just looks too... Overdone for a street car IMHO (kind of like a GT wing).

But hey, op was just thinking out loud and I agreed with him. :D

intheboost 12-02-2012 05:55 PM

Thanks for all the input guys. :D

Yes, I sold it a few weeks ago. I do miss it but the Z06 it a totally different animal!

Don't get me wrong, I do like the hood, and it think it goes with all the other add-ons. I guess part of me still likes the OEM Z06 look. Keep in mind I have only had the car 24 hours, and it is all still new to me. Now for track use, yes this hood would be great. I think I will get an OEM hood and go back and forth between the two depending on my mood!

Close up of the hood:

By the way, the fitment is 100% perfect. Not like some other CF hoods out there.

h3ll yeah....I LIKE it....

Add: after you get use to it and decide you want to sell it, let me know....I plan to pick one upo this next spring if I don't change my mind and decidse to leave mine stock....but I would not mind having that one too. enjoy...

timmyZ06 12-02-2012 05:59 PM

yeah ditch the hood and rear spoiler, but thats it. Apr carbon rear zr1 look great.

GMuffley 12-02-2012 07:25 PM

I like it the way it is.

SUPERCRUZ 12-02-2012 07:39 PM

I purchased a bone stock 09 VR Z this past June and I love it. Coming out of a highly modified H/C C5, I plan to keep this Z stock. That said, I think your car looks amazing. I am not sure I would change anything. Beautiful car. Good luck whatever you decide.

Zelicious 12-02-2012 07:57 PM

Congrats! I just bought a 2009 Z also. Bone stock for now but that won't last long!

Mr. Gizmo 12-02-2012 08:14 PM

Nice - Z. My Z is bone stock. Will leave it that way. with the exception of improvements to the head with roller rockers and stainless steel valves once the GMPP expires.

All and all I am not a fan of aftermarket hoods on these cars, but the set up on yours is very nice.

VCUFAN 12-02-2012 08:24 PM

Congrats on the Z06 and good choice putting it back close to stock. Love the color.

:iagree: leave it alone for awhile. See how you like it. If you want to change the hood, then find you a Z07 hood. That would be a killer look! Congrats on your new car!

Car looks great. I like the hood

Engine is stock except for a Corsa axle back. Brakes and suspension have been modded.

Thanks!

I will look into this, but it does not bother me. I plan to put some miles on this one, and I will just make it worse

The hood and spoiler are growing on me. They look a lot better in person, and the photos don't do them justice.

Wow that car looks pretty fierce with that hood.

so do i. Most aftermarket hoods for C6's look way to Ricey and are way to busy. The Black factory hood, or even the 427 hood (Which is subtle) would look much better.

Also honestly I think(even though it's a quality/expensive hood with a great paint job)that too much carbon fiber doesn't work well on C6's. The exposed carbon is very JDM to me and doesn't fit in with the american muscle scene.

ps, I also think if you are trying to pull off something as bold as that hood and spoiler, you need to back it up with a nice set of aftermarket 19/20 or 20/20 wheels. what do I know.... but it just doesn't seem right when you have all this aftermarket stuff going on and you have the plain jane factory wheels.

colts95ta 12-06-2012 07:51 AM

Car looks great Brian! Maybe we could trade hoods. I don't dig it all that much but I think it would work good for extracting heat in my application.

Those pictures look familiar... Same location as my car???

Well time to get to work. Later

bgad 12-06-2012 08:35 AM

WAIT! Don't do anything for a while. The car looks great and you will regret it of you change it IMHO.

"NO SHOW" 12-06-2012 01:22 PM

Car looks great, the splitter and side skirts really set the Z's off. IMO

Let me know if sell the splitter.

08VRZ06 12-06-2012 02:30 PM

Awsome looking Z06!!

Love the hood too!!! I to think the ZR1 spoiler would look better.... Maybe a Katech Carbon ZR1 spoiler????

Oh and welcome back!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

intheboost 12-06-2012 05:57 PM

I appreciate the feedback, positive and negative. I am going to keep this setup for a while and then decide what to do after I do a full detail. When I first saw the pics of the car in the for sale ad, I thought "if I get this car that hood is coming off ASAP!"

I am curious what the ZR1 spoiler will look like on there. It should be here in a few days. Good to be back!
