65 VIN and other # help

So, I crawled around and in my car and have a question or two. What cM be learned from the VIN? 194675S1088x also took some from the trans, bellhousing, and rear end. Please help me decode them as I'm trying to figure out if the trans and rear are original to the car. Passenger side front of the trans has 3851325, rear of trans has 3857534 there is a circle with a 5 inside near the front numbers. The bellhousing has 3858403. The rear end has 3871375.. and a small tag on the drivers side of the trans under a bolt has 3857579. Any help or input will be greatly appreciated.. gonna try to get some pics up tonight!

All you can tell from the partial vin you provided is that it's a 65 convertible and was made sometime around Feb or Mar. The transmission should have 51088xx (vin) stamped on it if it's original to the car. The rear doesn't have a vin, but should have a two letter code followed by a date on the bottom edge just above the spring. (example AM 3 15 65)3:36 made Mar 15 65. Not much way to tell if the rear is original except by date assembled. If you post pictures, post the trim tag too. That will help with dates. Is it possible the number on the rear section is 3857584? The transmission should also have a date code stamped like for example P0315 or the like along the edge.

The stamped code(s) on the differential can be seen by looking straight up when under the car between the spring bundle and the strut bar bracket. This is a pic from my 65 but it's actually a 3:08 posi from a '68 Vette.

Your VIN is missing a digit but in addition to the above info., Your trans is a close ratio Muncie (according to the metal tag) and it's correct for a Corvette. The number on the rear trans. housing should read 3857584. Your bellhousing is correct for your car. The rear has the correct casting number but the stamping will tell exactly what it is.

The last # of my VIN is an 8. The # on the rear trans housing could very well be an 8 rather than 3 as I was on my back using the flashlight on my phone! I didn't know where to look for the stamping on either the trans or the rear. I'll try to get a pic up of the trim tag.

I meant your VIN is short 1 number. It should read 194675S1xxxxx, the last 5 being the number of the car somewhere between 00001 -23564.

You're still a digit short. It's S108 plus three more digits. Example: Mine is S106778

(Unless it's S100888, S110888)
