Old man car?
I think everyone here knows that the biggest stigma with corvettes (even more than interior quality) is that people think that they are for old guys. I think that might be true for the "regular" cars, but the Z06 seems to be different. So... How old are you guys?
I'll go first, I bought the car for myself for my 26th birthday. |
|
20 when I bought mine last year, its viewed as an old man's car like all the other C6s since that's the majority of people who are driving them around. Mainly because of the cost
|
I bought my Z when I was 29... upgraded from a twin turbo 370Z.
|
I'm 35. I have 2 other friends within 10 miles of me with Z06s, one 33 I think and the other 25. I'm sure we get judged all the time as driving dad's car lol. Funny thing is one of the Zs is paid for and the other 2 are real close...yep old guys here...
|
I think you're right in that the Z has more appeal to the younger crowd than the base models, but being more expensive they're probably harder for younger folks to attain. I wouldn't be surprised if the average age was the same across the board.
FWIW, I've wanted a C5Z when I was in my late teens and I bought the C6Z when I was 25. So I'm totally on board with the 'younger' crowd sentiment, but we are still the minority as there are a lot of older owners. The guy I bought my car from was turning 60. In a few years, as these cars depreciate and become more affordable, you'll see a lot more younger folks in them. |
bought mine in spring of 2008 -- when I was 26. Had a badass gig in the oil and gas industry.
Sadly that job faded a year or so later -- still have the Z though :) I upgraded from a 1.3L Mazda RX8 -- QUITE a difference. Anyone who calls it an old man car is either 1) jealous 2) closed minded and too dumb to think for themselves. |
i'm 54 and consider myself young. I've owned an '06 C6 Z51, an '08 Z06 and now a 2012 Z06 with cup tires and carbon brakes. My vettes get driven on the track at their limit (1.28 G's on highway ramps), so no old guy putting around town here. These cars perform better than anything else.

I'm 27... Bought mine when I was 26... Had a GT500 before this at 24...

I find more people think Vette owners are d-bags...
|
55 when I bought the Z. 25 when I bought my first Corvette. The Z is my 9th Corvette.
|

Bought my first Vette, the current Z, last June, days before my 27th birthday. As a joke, my co-workers in the office gave me a birthday balloon saying happy 50th, lol
The Z06 has been my dream ever since the first one came out back when I was in high school. Almost bought one (C5) after graduating from engineering school, but economy hit me hard (2009). The image of a Vette depends on your location and its local culture. Here in Vancouver, every damn car is an import, so the Vette is unique, and probably carries the image of a true enthusiast instead of another rich kid buying a 370Z with daddy's money. |
60--bought the Z when I was 55.
