Jay makes some very interesting comments, summed it up as “European” .

cool vid

lt4obsesses 01-23-2013 08:39 PM

Jay Leno cracks me up, he is a the classic example of a car guy. "Here, open this", "what's under here", "what's this", touches everything! Awesome, Ed Welburne looked very nervous through most of that vid. Too funny.

Stingray23 01-23-2013 08:43 PM

sexy!

keagan 01-23-2013 08:47 PM

Listen to that exhaust roar to life. Beastie!! Great video, Jay seems quite satisfy with it. I also noticed he said he rarely drives anything faster than his ZR1. Cool!

Ed was nervous, as Jay (The Ultimate Corvette Car Guy!) did not show the enthusiasm for this car as he has in the past for Corvette.
Here is a video link of Jay and his Corvette as an example. Note Jays comments in the Vid !

Wonder what color, options and accessories that Jay will select for his C7?

DRLC5 01-23-2013 08:49 PM

Cool Vid. I like the hidden compartment behind the Nav..

RC000E 01-23-2013 08:53 PM

That video was really....REALLY painful....

ughhhh....I want this car NOW! Z06...where are you!!!

arkus 01-23-2013 08:54 PM

Jay says the car is very European looking . Is that good or bad ?

It struck me as if they have incorporated a little throttle with the startup to give it that roar to life sound. Hard to say, but it sounds like it jumps to 1500 or so, then drops down.

This car....is incredible...

Slow Vette 01-23-2013 08:59 PM

looks good! so it is 450hp??

C6FirstVette 01-23-2013 09:00 PM

More I see more I like...but I still feel the exterior styling is going to be color dependent....yes again because of the vents and rear...to me the darker colors flow better with the design. That is totally subjective and many will have differing views and that is good. I think they have a real game changer of a Vette.

User 2623 01-23-2013 09:01 PM

Good vid.....
Thanks

Indeed he did (seem a bit nervous). Might have something to do with the fact they 'they heald a little back" comment made by Tadge in the other video.

I sure hope this was filmed before the NYC Morning Show!! Jay deserves to have been the first person outside of GM to drive the new C7.

Even Ed Welburn references the "Gran Turismo" crowd they are trying to entice. I guess everyone over 35 need not apply! He also states the 450/450 numbers without reservation.:(

randy ransome 01-23-2013 09:45 PM

I wonder why Ed didn't correct Jay when he said

"six speed gear box obviously" at about the 7 minute 25 second spot.

I thought it was a 7 speed.

This is the current numbers they have released...him saying it doesn't change it. Until its in the brochure, its not official. Everyone can cry about it then. Until that time, every inside indication is, this motor is definitely good for more and will come out making more.

For now, the people on the inside just need to stick to the plan. You can't overstate hp levels only to find it won't get SAE cert or pass emissions or god knows what else. GIVE IT TIME....

I tell you ONE thing...I am hearing weight...weight....weight...weight...sha ved this, hollowed this, trimmed that. I don't see this car being heavier than a C6...I'll be damn surprised.

In the context of Jay's comment I took it as a very good thing...and I agree...as he states that what he finds exciting is that any little picture you take of it, you'd guess European...$200,000 - $300,000...Ferrari, Lamborghini...in that category.

Great video...love it!!!

Yeah...kinda sounds like it bottoms out when Jay pulls it off the platform...listen at 11:19. Or maybe it was just loose flooring/ramping on the platform itself.

Yeah, I heard something then. I'm sure Ed would like to edit out a few things but nothing horrible. I'm sure they had very little time to shoot.

WICKEDFRC 01-23-2013 10:05 PM

At 4:00 I got bored and closed the video...then I read a response to the sound of the exhaust and went back. Seriously? I couldn't hear crap when it was started with the cameraman at the driver side door.

And what's with everyone being on Jay Leno's dxxk?

I am sure there are plenty of "car guys" out there that can speak a little more intelligently.

The C7 release video had so much more appeal than this boring clip.

Isn't it a 7 speed manual? Jay said 6 and was not corrected my his GM buddy!

Yeah, that one was probably the biggy. It could be he was thinking it was standard on the Z51 that they had there. It's easy to make mistakes in an unscripted video shoot like that. I've been involved in a bunch of them.

mattkilla2015 01-23-2013 10:45 PM

Thanks for the video link. I liked it a lot. Also I really like the wheels, first time I've paid attention to the wheels in a video. would be perfect if someone or Chevy comes out with a version with a large lip in resr/ smaller lip in front.

jazc4 01-23-2013 10:48 PM

That video makes me want one even more! I agree with Jay that the C7 is sexy and has some European look. After all, I like the way a Ferrari or Aston Martin look, so why would I mind a little bit of European influence. Even with that influence, it still looks all Corvette to me.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was not comparing it to a Yugo. Tell any brunette that she looks like Sophia Loren or blonde that she looks like Brigitte Bardot (in their twenties) and I'm pretty sure that would be a compliment.

I hope youre right but it's been stated by engineers that it will be slightly heavier then the c6. I think it will be around the grand sport weight. I believe the lt1 is heavier then the ls3 because of emission standards. The c7 also got a heavier torque tube because it is now made out of a heavier metal. The materials in the interior will probably weigh more besides the seats. It is slightly wider and longer then the base c6. New saftey standards increase weight, and more insulation for reduced noise in cabin will add weight.

Chrisrokc 01-23-2013 11:56 PM

That hidden storage behind the nav is trick... wow.

Frankie2blue 01-24-2013 12:28 AM

He also said the wheelbase was the same, and I have been under the impression the C7 wheelbase is slightly longer.

To be honest, I think Ed Welburn seemed to be a little annoyed with Leno by that point. Leno was doing a lot of chattering, but it was obvious he hadn't really done any homework on the car prior to doing this shoot. I think Mr. Welburn just decided to "let it go". Besides, Leno is car guy that likes Corvettes, but I don't think he's a Corvette guy so much.

Nope, the red C7 with black wheels, is still an incredibly ugly combination. :ack:

That's probably why Jay didn't seem to be thrilled, when Ed was showing him the C7.

Right, Jay was thinking that the dash trim matches the body color, so if you get a yellow car, you get yellow trim.

That would actually be a cool option.

Big Dan 427 01-24-2013 08:43 AM

At 1:27 look at how cloudy the paint is around the Stingray emblem, looks terrible! Also what's up with the Nascar type spoiler, way too tall IMO! This is the most upclose video I've seen and I like it even less now! Sorry don't get all upset but I still don't get the excitement over the car! I loved when he was talking weight, isn't the car no lighter than it was? And I know Jay is not a small guy but he's not huge either and he looked crammed in the drivers seat!

I disagree.....

Jay said the C7 was "revolutionary", ...."...a really exciting car." and... "beautiful".......and thats without even getting to really drive it.

He also said it looks like a 200K or 300K car.

Pretty good review in my book from the car guy

hey32g 01-24-2013 10:10 AM

Nice to have a real car guy like Leno talk about it.

That car just melts me. My gosh!

As my 12 year old said to his twin brother when we watched the unveiling online, "dang, you can have Lamborghini, that's awesome!!!"

BlueOx 01-24-2013 10:32 AM

A. Leno clearly wanted to have it on his show.
B. Leno clearly likes the Corvette brand and owns a number of them.
C. Leno clearly really liked the 2014 Stingray specifically enough to gush about it.
D. Leno clearly stated he wanted to drive it.
E. Ed is the head of Design, not the C7 Head of Marketing or the C7 Chief Engineer. I can forgive him for having some lapses of knowledge, especially since a lot of what will be final as far as models/options may still be in flux. We don't even know when this video was shot...

You can add that Leno's mechanical interests go WAY beyond Corvettes and cars, in general. He is a true gearhead and his collection includes a vast number of motorcycles, antique vehicles and even old steam and electric engines. He has poured literally millions upon millions into his garage and the ongoing costs must be enormous.

I'm pretty sure it was shot when the car was in AZ for B-J. Leno said they were in Scottsdale.

Okay, so I love the way the brake lights light up. I guess the centers are for turn signals and reverse lights, both of which I approve of. I never liked having brake lights, tail lights, and turn signals in one.

Did anyone else notice that the hatch is even shaped like a Stingray when open?

Clearly true so EVERYONE'S time was really short. And you are correct, those tail lights really are fine works of art.

Ed Welburn said the car is just to powerful to be called just "the base vette".. he said that was another reason they brought back the Stingray name.

They said this car has the same power as the current Z06. So i guess the Z06 is now the Stingray :). The top models coming down the road must be monsters.

I read Jay's statement that the car "doesn't look like a corvette, rather something European" as a polite way to say Ed, you guys f*$%&d up an American ICON. Of course he will buy one (probably several), he buys everything and anything that is mechanical in nature, even stuff that doesn't look that great. He was much more excited about he C5 and C6 then this model, I can tell you because I remember.

I know Ed probably didn't make the final call on the design (he didn't strike me as final decisionmaker guy to me, rather more of a GM yesman). I would like to just sit down with the whomever did make the final call and, look at pics of all the concepts we were showed over the last 5 years, and explain to me why they picked this over the others...

Supersonic 427 01-24-2013 03:47 PM

Ed Welburn didn't seem at ease with Jay and seemed very vague with his knowledge of the car. Jay asked if it was the same size and wheelbase as the C6 and Welburn said "yes". The C7 is infact, longer and wider, with a longer wheelbase.

That isn't what Leno said at all...in the business we call that 'projecting'.
They picked it just to pizz you off.

Again, that is the company line for now. The engine hasn't been certified yet. It will be more when it hits production!

Obviously you don't like the new Vette. I'm not sure what you are talking about. Ed was a bit nervous. That's not his day job. I heard Jay saying he liked the car very much and was impressed with it inside and out. Not sure where you are coming from.
I guess you wanted it to be negative to support your thought's. Sorry there was nothing negative with anything on that video.:toetap:

BlueOx 01-24-2013 05:25 PM

No I didn't

Bill17601 01-24-2013 07:32 PM

I heard one of the Chevy executives say the tail lights are the head light issue when the C6 was introduced. He said people will forget about it just like they forgot hidden head lights....

mazurekd 01-24-2013 08:14 PM

Ed said something about the C7's 'stretch lines'. Good grief, I thought I left my ex long ago. :ack:

He didn't change the subject. He acknowledged it was controversial, but that it was time for a change. Leno remarked how the same thing happened with the C6 headlights, and then pointed out how 'sexy' the tailpipes are.
