Cam installation

Hi All,

I am ready to order a cam kit from LG Motorsports for my 2007 Z06. I live in British Columbia, Canada. Anyone know anyone up this way that does this kind of install? I am being told it will 30-40 hours worth of work which is like $4,600.00. Is this normal?

Thanks!

mistermog 02-04-2013 08:30 PM

Definitely not normal, not that high at all.

I called a few shops down in FL and was told about 7-8 hours total drive in/drive out time.

The shop that did my install billed me for 9 - 10 hours. Have they ever installed a cam in an LS7 before???

RedZ4me 02-04-2013 08:46 PM

please, do not take it to that shop.......clearly they have never done a cam. Don't !!!

LifeAt200MPH 02-04-2013 08:54 PM

Thanks for the heads up. Did 9-10 hours include the kit; valve springs, push rods, etc.? I doubt they have done a LS7 cam before. It is a GM dealership I called. We don't have any real performance shops here. They all want to bill you what the "book" says.

Yes, that was with the springs and most would reuse the stock rods (without measuring, so I dont agree with that part, but it doesnt take long to measure... i just dont know how to do it the right way. I dont know how to get the preload bit)

exactly. His next post will be. "I blew my engine, what should I do next?"

It sucks living where their are no competent performance shops.

RedZ4me 02-04-2013 09:24 PM

ship the car out then, spend a thousand for a 2 way trip or 20 thousand for a motor. take your choice.

I could drive it down to Washington or even Oregon. Any good shops in either?

Are you willing to take it to a shop in the U.S. If so there is a very good shop in Vancouver WA.

LifeAt200MPH 02-04-2013 10:09 PM

Yes, I could have it in Seattle in 5 hours from my house. 2 of those is sitting on a ferry.

HyperX 02-04-2013 10:21 PM

My setup here took 15 work hours

LifeAt200MPH 02-04-2013 10:26 PM

Real nice, what did they charge you for that? What was the actual shops name that did the work?

tim414 02-04-2013 10:27 PM

Ask LG if they know of any competent places in your area that can do it and not rip you.

I just had my car done at Tom Wong's Performance in Vancouver. He has a very good rep around Washington. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wongs-...g/115667950915

My car is the orange Z06.

I can vouch for Tom Wong's Performance in Vancouver, he has my car currently and he has been great to work with. Well worth the effort and he is 3 hours from me.

What does Tom Wong's Performance charge roughly? I can make that trip no problem.
